To ask what’s the big deal and the difference with talking about work and so called “mentionitis”?

I see it all the time here where ppl say the their dh/dw has mentionitis? But I am genuinely intrigued as to how they have come to that conclusion? I tell my dp stories etc about numerous ppl in work everyday (male and female) and vice versa. Is this different or not? When/how does it become “mentionitis”? Genuinely asking as I’m baffled by it. Thanks

When one colleague is talked about so much more than other colleagues that it is clearly noticeable and in some cases when it's a severe case, conversations seem to be brought round to said colleague.

I think I'll have ice cream.

Brenda likes chocolate ice cream.

If I talked about lots of different animals then started talking mainly about cats, you'd notice.

Same thing.
When you hear it, you recognise it. You just do.

@IncompleteSenten I can see that viewpoint…my person in the conversations will shift as I will work closely with different ppl every so often. I also socialize with them outside of work at times so I genuinely get to know them. I feel like that could apply to a lot of ppl but not to others I suppose.

I am on MN far too much, and I have literally never heard - or seen - this word.
I'm confused how you see it 'all the time'.
