To wonder if this holiday is expensive or average?

I'm looking at booking a holiday lodge for me and DP in Norfolk or the Peak District for a weekend in late October (not half term) and my god it's just over a grand for 3 nights?! Not anything especially fancy - clean and modernish kitchen/lounge, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, heating. (Sort of basic Centre Parcs style).

Is this typical? Airbnb is way cheaper - i don't understand why people go to these holiday cottages/lodges at these prices? I haven't been on hols in the UK for years - have lived abroad for most of the past decade - so possibly out of touch!

That seems outrageous. I'd go somewhere in the Med for that.

WilsonandNoodles · 26/08/2022 23:18

It sounds expensive compared to what I've booked in the past for similar but larger and in school holidays. The price of everything is up though so who knows! Compare it to other companies.

We just spent a week in the Peak District in a cottage for £700. There’s lots of websites like holiday cottages.com The cottage was immaculate.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/08/2022 23:22

hugely expensive

PersonaNonGarter · 26/08/2022 23:23

That’s expensive but a lot of people will pay.

Well, a lot of people would have paid. They might find that people flush with lockdown savings have now got holidays out of the system and are more concerned with bills than holidays…

Thank you, I'll have a look on that site.

Mega expensive- we have done lodge type holidays a lot over the last few years- always in school hols as well but this year we are free of of that so are going away at the end of Sept- 7 nights top lodge in Yorkshire - 2 King sized bedroom 'suites' inc dressing room and ensuite bathroom each plus huge veranda/hot tub. £900 for 7 nights- Great site - have been before - keep looking.

Decidualcast · 26/08/2022 23:34

Bloody hell. I had the most amazing week in France for 1k. TBF Eurostar tickets didn’t cost anything as I used points, but we stayed in Paris and Provence (3 hotels), hired a car last minute, paid for train travel to the south, food, museums. We packed in a lot for 1k. No way would I pay that for 3 nights in the UK (as much as I love N Norfolk).

mrsfollowill · 26/08/2022 23:45

If you can head a bit further North to East Yorkshire google North Star Sanctum - luxury lodges for £500 ish 3 days? Just looked now and they have availability for Oct 2022- we had a week there last year - very quiet only a few lodges but so tranquil!

EntertainingandFactual · 26/08/2022 23:50

Try changing the number of days on the calendar.
When looking for a short break I’ve noticed that many places want you to stay for a week so the price is the same for 3,4,5,6 nights.
If you find this is the case, look for somewhere that specifically offers 3 night stays.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/08/2022 23:51

That’s stoopid money, mate.,

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/08/2022 23:53

October half term isn't the same everywhere. I bet your weekend is half term somewhere. We border the Peak Park to the Northeast. Our half term is 21-31 Oct.

Penguinfeather781 · 26/08/2022 23:56

End of October is half term, or at least adjoining it, surely, especially as quite a few schools now do two weeks?

That aside, I could get a weekend at CP in a significantly larger property and at the start of October half term for less than £1k, so if that’s the kind of style it is then yes it’s expensive.

Kite22 · 27/08/2022 00:15

That's ridiculously expensive, but then there are lots of people on here still willing to pay centre parcs prices, so I may be out of kilter with MN replies.

Summerfun54321 · 27/08/2022 00:33

End of October as in last week of October? That’s half term for my DS here, DD has half term the week after. They vary by school and county.

HeddaGarbled · 27/08/2022 00:43

It is expensive but I think you’re looking at the wrong sort of accommodation for a 3 day break. Lodges will be expecting to be booked out for a week. That’s why Airbnb is cheaper, or normal B&B or hotels.

blueshoes · 27/08/2022 00:44

That is a daft price for a one bedroom house. We can get a comfortable 3 bed cottage (one bedroom for each dc) for 3 nights for less than that.

We also use cottages.com in the UK.

ZenNudist · 27/08/2022 00:48

Nope wouldn't pay that. You can get Norfolk 2 bed lodge with a pool for about £700 in summer.

Coasterfan · 27/08/2022 00:52

That’s very expensive, I have just booked 7 nights at the port adventura theme park in Spain for October half term for four of us for £1500. Flights, transfers, breakfast and 3 days theme park tickets all included. I appreciate its very different to what you are looking for but I seem to have got lots more for my money!!

Lancrelady80 · 27/08/2022 01:05

Lodges always seem to be stupid money in school hols.

Better looking at holiday cottages. Can use Tesco points on Cottages.com and probably other companies too if that helps.

blueshoes · 27/08/2022 01:08

What is so special about a lodge? What is a lodge?

lol, you are not selling it to me

hewouldwouldnthe · 27/08/2022 10:59

Ridiculously expensive. I stayed in a fully kitted out lodge in Hartley, Norfolk (sleeps 6) under £500 last week, for 7 days. Gorgeous, clean spacious lodge in a quiet rural setting.

Peashoots · 27/08/2022 11:00

Super expensive. We’ve just booked a holiday cottage in the Peak District for 4 nights for £700, that’s October half term.
