To ask what to do about these men in my street?

Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday there's been a group of about four or five guys standing in a doorway/hanging about in my street right across from my flat. They were there on Wednesday night too. I don't think any of them even live here. It's a residential street in a city, it's pretty quiet normally and there's sheltered housing on the corner.

Lo and behold they showed up tonight. They're being really loud and aggressive, screaming (I mean SCREAMING), drinking, taking stuff out of bins and chucking it around. They keep getting into a car and driving off, then a while later come back. They just huddle together on the street, cause a racket, get in the car, go away, then come back. Rinse and repeat.

It goes on from when it gets dark to about midnight/one am. Not super late but pretty bad - most of this street is elderly, professionals or taxi drivers who get up really early. It's not like there's a pub or anything where a bit of shenanigans might be expected. I feel REALLY bad for the elderly people in the sheltered housing 😟

I've called 101 each night and every time the police come they've bloody driven off. I've just watched the police sit in the street for ages and the bloody arseholes are away doing god knows what. They'll be back. The police are going to start thinking I'm taking the piss.

What should I do? It's starting to really upset me.

If they are causing a disturbance I would report it to the police each time, keep a log of dates and times, look up your local ASB team and if the housing they frequent is social housing/council stock, report it to them too as they may issue conditions to the person who lives there not to allow the house to become a gathering place.

If they're disturbing you they'll be disturbing others too, so get them to ring also. That way it might add some weight to your complaint.

Take videos. Also I’d be tempted to squirt them with piss using a water gun if you can do it discretely from your window!

Squirt them with PISS??? Are you quite well? They sound like utter knobs but that's just rank.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 26/08/2022 23:06

Can you get the reg of the car? Sounds like they're drink driving? If you can give the police the reg they'll maybe look out for them elsewhere?

Do you think they can see the police car before they come back so are able to slope off till its gone, or is it just irritating coincidence? Can you offer the police somewhere to park/wait out of sight if that might help?

Whose doorway is it they're standing in, is it someone involved with them or just a poor random person?

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/08/2022 23:09

Could be more sinister along the lines of cuckooing - hanging around the home of someone vulnerable who they are exploiting in some way.

FlyingMasticatedParticles · 26/08/2022 23:18

Well they did come back. Fuck. Sat and watched them standing spitting in one of the doorways. Called 101 again and the woman was so lovely she told me to just keep phoning every time they show up. UGH. I'm so pissed off. I am going to read all of your replies once I've stopped raging 😒 they're away again. No doubt they'll be back.

As for the reg number yeah I gave them it.

I'll start doing that. I'm fairly sure they don't live here, I've never seen them going into any houses, they just stand in the doorway. I've also never seen them talking to anyone who does live in the building, however I may be wrong.

I'll have a word with my neighbours and see if they'll report them. When I called last weekend I was advised that there had been quite a few complaints about them.

I think it's just an annoying coincidence. It's so frustrating 😣 it's the doorway of a block of flats. Well, two doorways, I've seen them standing in both. That's when they're not getting in and out of their car and standing in the street.

Can you get hold of some stink bombs and lob a few into their hang out area when they pop out on one of their errands? And rig up a massive sound system and blast them with Celine Dion whenever they’re there?
