Energy prices - having a rant!

Just been catching up on today's news after finishing work, and yep the energy prices are yet again increasing.

I've been keeping a close eye on ours, and so far with the last increase we haven't done too bad. We are £457 in credit and payments are £150 (Octopus didn't change them on the last hike).

The bit I can't get my head around is Ofgem. They are the people putting forward these figures, why?!!! Are they suggestions, or do the energy companies actually have to adjust prices accordingly?

I have read that a few of the bigger companies are talking about/thinking about freezing bills at "today's" figures to help out with the cost of living crisis. It seems fairly simple to me, its [your] company, do what you like with it. Judging by the huge profits made you're doing OK, it's not going to harm your cashflow/shareholder's, money will still be coming in.

I'm just an utter loss, as are many others, as to why this is happening! I can't see that we can blame this on the war in Ukraine when prices started hiking way before the war started.

It just beggars belief, it really does

Sorry for the ling rant lol
