Phones on speaker in public

Sit down in a cafe, lean your mobile against something on the table, call someone on speaker phone and have a conversation as you would with someone sitting opposite you for 20 minutes.

This is annoying and antisocial isn't it? The voice coming out of the speaker is not the same as the voice of someone sitting in the cafe...

AIBU? I'm in a cafe waiting for my kids to and this fellow customer is annoying me, but I'm wondering whether I'm unreasonable and it's no different to talking to someone in person...

Not unreasonable in the slightest. There’s no justification for it.

I hate peopleon speakerphone or facetime, if you are going to do it at least use a headset.

Thanks... I guess it's not unreasonable to be annoyed; I wonder if it's unreasonable to say something (politely - just please turn the speaker phone off)... I'd expect some people to react politely having not realised it was annoying, but others to argue it's no different to talking to someone sitting at the table...

My children turned up just after I posted anyway and we left, but next time I might say something.

Somehow it's so much more intrusive than people who are physically sitting together having an ordinary conversation, and I'm not sure why - perhaps the tinny quality of the voice broadcast through speakers.
