Sorry AIBU but starting to panic slightly about how to mark his 18th.

He is our eldest and has no interests really other than on/off gaming.
He has left college and is starting a FT job as a trainee painter/decorator - can’t buy him brushes!
No interest in alcohol. Has stopped driving lessons temporarily til mid Sept.

Need a wild card idea. He says he doesn’t want anything.

How about stating (or adding to) a savings account for him. Not a thrilling present but then he doesn't want anything so I'd say it's best to 'bank' the money for something g he does want in the future.

JohnsShirt · 25/08/2022 03:29

A ticket for a band he likes?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/08/2022 03:30

@KarenSmith84 ???

icklekid · 25/08/2022 03:33

I think it depends on reason why the driving lessons are paused, are they financial? I outdone money towards a holiday be well received? Or vouchers for a day trip somewhere special? I like the gig tickets idea? You don’t state a price/guide amount which will probably help!

BritInAus · 25/08/2022 03:37

Yep, tickets for an event/travel.

I need the back, front and all round story here! I'm sorry this backfired on you too 😥

Yes, tickets to a band they like or a voucher for the game store?

I actually read it as 'turned off' too 😂 Hopefully he'll grown into his own. We want so much for our children and see so much potential for them...

mondaytosunday · 25/08/2022 04:47

My son just turned 19 and he wanted a decent watch.

Say what ?

HaveYouAnyDreamYoudLikeToSell · 25/08/2022 04:50

Festival ticket ?

Roselilly36 · 25/08/2022 04:58

Good quality cordless headphones? Premium Bonds? Cash? New phone?

Maryward · 25/08/2022 05:17

I bought my son a watch as then they also have a keepsake to remember turning 18 in the future! He was very pleased with it.

sashh · 25/08/2022 05:44

Have you asked him?

Frenchfancy · 25/08/2022 05:50

Mine got watches. They still love and wear them several years later.

balalake · 25/08/2022 07:24

Perhaps take him for his word and do not buy anything, take him out for a meal instead. No crime to have no physical present, plenty of people in the world have no option.

resuwen · 25/08/2022 07:35

I have one of these. Birthday in September. No. Bloody. Idea.

RaininSummer · 25/08/2022 07:41

If he doesn't want any stuff right now then maybe put it the money into premium bonds for him assuming it's 100 pound plus. He can buy something later start car savings. Or would he appreciate a nice watch to mark his 18th.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 25/08/2022 07:42

Trip to Barcelona for him and a friend? Decent watch? Festival tickets? Car?

What’s the budget? Etsy is good for keepsakes
