To ask why vinted buyers don't mark as received?

I sell a few things on vinted, fewer since they've limited the postage options you can use without a printer but the last few things I've sent the buyers haven't marked as received, even after I've politely messaged them. Whenever I buy anything I mark it as soon as I've got it, as you're supposed to do!

The parcels are tracked so I can tell they've been received, presumably there's nothing wrong as they haven't replied to my message and I haven't had any notification of a dispute from vinted, so why not just click the button??? I know it is a very minor issue but it's annoying having to wait 3 weeks for vinted to progress it automatically, and if you've sold a few items to keep track of everything, while wondering if there's going to be an issue you'll have to try and sort out, when it's so easy for the seller to just click that one button!

Also why is the delay for vinted to automatically mark it so long - surely a fortnight after delivery is more than enough time for someone to raise an issue, not 3 weeks!

I think a lot of buyers don't realise that you are supposed to.

TheCutter · 24/08/2022 15:45

I always click it as soon as I receive it then give feedback. However I can imagine some people might not to wait for next pay day? It's not something I agree with but just offering a possible explanation

HardRockOwl · 24/08/2022 15:53

I'm not sure the 'dome buyers don't realise you have to' age hike by stacks up. Vinted email and message via the app to prompt you to do it so I can only assume people just can't be bothered

HardRockOwl · 24/08/2022 15:54

God the typos! Hopefully you get the gist

Dotjones · 24/08/2022 15:54

Maybe they haven't received it? As in, their partner signed for the package, it's sitting in the hallway, but the orderer is still away on business.

Also I think some people don't want to click it because it's kind of accepting the item. If they damage it in the first few days of owning it, they can claim it arrived like that and they hadn't opened the package beforehand.

Also also, people are lazy and don't care whether the seller has to wait longer for payment.

Bessica1970 · 24/08/2022 15:57

It’s not the next pay day thing, because buyers pay when they order (it’s just that Vinted don’t pass payment to the seller until everything is ok).

Sometimes I’ll pick up an item but not have time to check whether it’s ok for a few days. I’ve messed up in the past by marking things received only to spot damage later.

BuenoSucia · 24/08/2022 15:58

Because I haven’t received it. I live very rurally and it’s not unknown for elvi (or whomever) to mark it as delivered - because it’s on the final leg of the journey - even though it takes a further 10 days to reach me.

wigglycactus · 24/08/2022 16:07

I always get things sent to a parcel collection point as its cheaper, then collect once a week or so - I'm not sure if from the sellers POV it might show as delivered as soon as it reaches the collection point? As soon as I've collected and checked it over I mark as received though. Just in case that might be it.

hangingbag · 24/08/2022 16:20

Delivery companies are a nightmare at the moment - I'm waiting for 2 things on Vinted that were sent 1.5 weeks ago and they're currently lost in transit somewhere

qwerty222 · 24/08/2022 16:23

Yes this is annoying. Even after chasing people don't mark as received. I think it's really hard to give honest scoring on a platform like Vinted because it's quite personal. Not like reviewing a big company. But I think next time it happens, after prompting, I might knock a couple of stars off their buyer review.

alpinia · 24/08/2022 16:26

Recently there seems to be a glitch where I don't get the option to mark as received for quite some time after the parcel arrives..very annoying.

Katiepoes · 24/08/2022 16:30

I collected an order on Monday - I have the option to report an issue but I cannot mark as received, the app says it will automatically complete on Sept 5. I sent the seller a message to say I have it, it's no necessarily the buyer's fault if they don't close the order. This is the first time I've seen this though, all the others I had to close myself.

Yes this happens here too.

Ah ok thanks for clarifying that! I didn't know

latetothefisting · 24/08/2022 17:59

Hmmm most of these answers don't really make sense, sorry

  • Buyers have had their money taken already

  • Vinted tells you several times to mark as received and then they would have also received my message asking them

  • In my cases they HAVE definitely been received (although I take the point about sometimes evri marking them early) because there's a signature

  • Plus if it hadn't been delivered surely the buyer would reply to my message saying this?

  • Fine you might not have the chance to check if it's ok immediately but who doesn't open their packages for 3 whole weeks?

Bretonbear · 24/08/2022 18:02

Just because a delivery firm marks a package as delivered it does not mean it has been received. I've had stuff delivered by Evri which was left in the middle of the road outside my house. I've also had the same firm mark an obviously ripped open and empty envelope left on my doorstep as delivered.

Classicblunder · 24/08/2022 18:04

I sometimes don't mark it as received straightaway - just because I forget! The message from the seller will come in when I am at work and my husband or cleaner have taken in the parcel and I haven't checked it. Then it's not top of mind.

Really boring answer. I don't know if I am more forgetful than the average but there it is!

Itsrainingatlast · 24/08/2022 18:23

My teenage son buys a lot on Vinted. I would guess he’s the type of buyer who probably forgets/doesn’t realise/bother about marking it as received!
I had a couple of items arrive when I was on holiday, so didn’t want to make them as received until I’d actually seen them myself, which was probably about a week after they’d arrived.

Satsumaonaplate · 24/08/2022 18:25

I have a newborn and sometimes forget for a few days, then feel really bad!

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 24/08/2022 18:31

I've just started using Vinted (thanks to the Vinted rabbit hole thread here recently) and got nudged by a seller to mark package as received. I hadn't realised I needed to but now do each time something arrives.

blueskyeve · 24/08/2022 18:31

I feel exactly the same OP. It's so frustrating. I always mark as received straight away and feel awful if I forget (it never goes over a day though as Vinted remind you).

The only thing I can think of is if the buyer is not 100% satisfied but still
wants the item. For example - the condition isn't as good as initially thought (as photos can be deceiving), but item was advertised as satisfactory, so the buyer can't complain.

There has been one time where I haven't marked as received and this was because I'm convinced the item was fake. But the item was still nice and didn't cost me much so I kept it, I just didn't want to say all was ok as truthfully it wasn't.
