Random request on Facebook from someone I didn't know today
I asked if they knew me etc or knew any of my friends and they said no I'm just getting to know people in (add my town!!
I said I don't accept friend requests from ppl I don't know as I didn't want to add them.
They said OK font if it makes you feel uncomfortable then don't.

What's all that about that?2
Presume it was spamming or selling didn't accept FR.
Also had another one that was on a friends list but he lived abroad. I just didn't accept.
Wish people wouldn't bother.
I thought on fB you were supposed to only add people you knew. I suppose they can't stop it though.
Does this happen to you?

You were being unreasonable in even engaging you in conversation!

JudgeRindersMinder · 23/08/2022 20:07

*them in conversation

TowerRavenSeven · 23/08/2022 20:07

I just delete ‘em

Sunnyqueen · 23/08/2022 20:09

I get a few a day. Just leave it don't deny the request because then they can just try adding you again.

Lollypop701 · 23/08/2022 20:09

you Can look on their profile if you have mutual friends if you must… but if I don’t know them why do they want to know about me so I just delete

Exactly. Easy enough to peep their profile, realise you don’t know them and delete the request. You can also set your Facebook so people can’t friend request you if it’s happening to you so much it’s causing an issue, enough to post on MN about it.

OP, did you just want to chat and didn’t have anything note worthy or interesting to post about? Perhaps you should make new friends, I hear Facebook is a great way to meet new friend 😂

Needmorelego · 23/08/2022 20:12

Why do you confirm? I don't if it's someone I don't know or don't want to be Facebook friends with.
It's not difficult !!

Strange thing to say. All sorts of posts on mumsnet. It's not compulsory to answer if it dosent interest you.
Find one that does.

They can’t add you as a friend unless you accept the friend request. Just ignore it if it’s someone you don’t know, don’t bother engaging in conversation.

pigsDOfly · 23/08/2022 20:23

I imagine they're responding to the fb generated friend suggestions.

I get them all the time but I don't click on them as I've no idea who these people are and have no desire to be fb friends with them and I imagine they feel the same.

I sometimes get friend requests from people I don't know I just ignore them. I certainly wouldn't start a conversation with them.

Octomore · 23/08/2022 20:27

Why do you even bother to message them?

I check the profile to see if its someone I know, if not I simply click the button to remove the request. No messaging them, no chit-chat, no being polite and making nice.

Stop feeling obligated to be nice to strangers who you don't even know.

Octomore · 23/08/2022 20:29

You realise that a lot of these people are looking for gullible types to spam with MLM adverts, or they're men looking to find hookups etc? You owe them nothing.

Just delete - it's so easy.

Bubblebubblebah · 23/08/2022 20:30

You can set it that only friends of friends can send requests. I would recommend to anyone, especially vulnerable people, to have a proper look through settings and set higher privacy

LikeAStar1994 · 23/08/2022 21:16

I added somebody by accident not long back (Yes it does happen) He accepted me pretty much straight away despite having no idea who I am. When I removed him he tried to add me again. We have 1 mutual friend.

OnTheBoardwalk · 23/08/2022 21:29

I only have, apart from a couple of overseas family, people I have actually met in real life on my friends list

someone I know has over 4,000, whatever floats your boat. I often get requests from them as friends in common.

i just decline their requests

TokyoTen · 23/08/2022 21:51

I just block and delete. Don't give it a second thought.
