Should I wake my 2yo?

Sorry but I'm posting for traffic. First time mum question. My 2 year old has had a high temperature, vomiting and cold symptoms. He's had his nap today but is still asleep at 4.15pm. Should I wake him up? I assumed he'd nap a bit longer but thought he'd have woken by now. He's been coughing and I've checked on him so I know he's ok.

Thank you

I always leave DD to sleep if she's unwell like this, sometimes their bodies just need it. I'd probably give them another hour or so and then wake and offer something to eat.

If he's unwell, I would let him sleep - he clearly needs it!

helogast · 23/08/2022 16:27

Can you check his temperature whilst he is still asleep to ensure it's not too high?

I would check their temperature while sleeping.

Sleep is the best medicine . You wake him he's just going to want to hang on you while crying until he is put back to bed. Leave him xx

Agree with the others, let him sleep (you might have to accept a late bedtime if he perks up) but check he's not burning up first. Have a drink and something easy to eat (I always give Weetabix) ready when you do wake him up.

If he sleeps through to the evening I would try to wake him and start worrying then if I couldn't.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 23/08/2022 16:36

I wouldn't. I'd keep taking his temperature, checking I could rouse him & other than that I'd let him sleep, while he can.

I'd be prepared for a restless night, but letting him
sleep while he can is going to help him get better faster.

As long as you check his temperature (and it’s not gone up) then let him sleep. If it has gone up then you will need to wake him and give him more Calpol / Nurofen if he’s due some.

Just make sure the weetabix isn't with cow's milk if he's got a sickness bug as sickness bugs can cause temporary lactose intolerance. Best to avoid dairy for a day or two afterwards as it can prolong the symptoms.

Let them sleep

newlife82 · 23/08/2022 18:21

Thanks. I did do, and he woke naturally around 4.30.

He's just been really sick due to coughing so I'm hoping he gets to sleep tonight and recovers 🙏🙏
