God knows where these figures have come from, last months gas was £19 and Electric £180!! Who the hell would sign up to £989 per month at nearly £12k a year. Love how they say Loyal Octopus "Most popular" popular to who? Think they mean them.

@GreenFingersWouldBeHandy
And keep your smug "Well I can afford it so why can't everyone else?" opinion to yourself please.
I didn't get this from @Sporty2022's post at all

FourTeaFallOut · 25/08/2022 16:49

It's plainly a complete misreading of Sporty's post. You need to go back and read it again GreenFingers

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 25/08/2022 16:53

@FourTeaFallOut Maybe I misinterpreted as such because I can't even afford my energy bills at the moment, let alone when they go up again.

Apologies @Sporty2022 if I took it the wrong way, but just sounded as though you couldn't understand why people couldn't afford their bills.

FourTeaFallOut · 25/08/2022 17:11

It must all feel very precarious and stressful. It's hard enough trying to build a business without this financial chaos to contents with. Sporty was just saying, like many others have, that this shouldn't be happening in this country.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 25/08/2022 16:04

@Sporty2022

For Christs sake we’re a rich country. And people are worried about turning the heating on , even turning the oven on and toaster on.

Speak for yourself! I'm on £324 Universal Credit a month while I set my own business up. I just cannot afford a £90 electricity bill per month when I also have to pay all other bills (car tax/insurance/petrol, house insurance, water, TV licence, mobile phone, broadband etc). Yes I have written it all down and it does not even cover it.

So I will not be putting my heating on this winter and I keep use of my oven and washing machine to a minimum. And keep your smug "Well I can afford it so why can't everyone else?" opinion to yourself please.

You’ve completely misunderstood me! I meant for Christ sake it’s appalling that we’re a rich country and people can’t afford to hear their homes and even have to think about using a cooker to use energy!

Greenfingers, we are a working family and cannot afford these proposed bills.. my point was it’s shocking that we all have to suffer when we’re a rich country. My anger is at the government. I’m far from smug as I can’t afford to pay the cap.

Sporty2022 · 25/08/2022 18:26

Maybe I should have been clear Lee on my earlier post. It’s horrendous that people won’t be able to pay these bills( me included) when we live in a rich country.

Sporty2022 · 25/08/2022 18:35

Clearer not clear Lee!

Piglet89 · 25/08/2022 18:37

following with interest…I also had an over £1000 per month quote to fix. 4 bed London property (admittedly with a large downstairs)

but seriously - is there any better in the market out there? Competition has completely gone out the window; Martin Lewis explains why on relevant pages of MSE. He’s completely disgusted: but the energy market in the Uk has been broken LONG before the wholesale energy price increases

Piglet89 · 25/08/2022 18:37

Sorry, I’m also with Octopus.

That's absolutely ridiculous

Piglet89 · 25/08/2022 18:49

I know @woodhill I am a total rate tart and usually manage to play the energy companies at their own rotten game. But, this time, I am completely stumped!

it’s shocking how incompetent energy companies’ operations were even before all this. Dire.

And Ofgem is a TOTAL joke of a “regulator”.

woodhill · 25/08/2022 18:52

Yes so am I but mine ran out in November and there were no good deals.

Our provider isn't doing

Pittapatcat · 25/08/2022 19:56

Can anyone help me understand if I would be better fixing?

The first image is the price cap rate with eon next. The second is what they are offering for a one year fix. MSE is saying it's worth considering.

It's 108% higher than the flexible rate to fix and just over £3k a year. Ugggh!

dementedpixie · 25/08/2022 20:02

@Pittapatcat I get that as 127.55% for gas and 138.74% higher for electricity. I personally wouldn't fix at that but its not up to me

dementedpixie · 25/08/2022 20:06

@Pittapatcat Are you sure you input the figures correctly as when I use them I get it as 'borderline'

Pittapatcat · 25/08/2022 20:17

I've double checked and put in all the data again. It's coming up as 108% higher to fix and just over 3k a year compared to £1458 on variable for now

Pittapatcat · 25/08/2022 20:21

@dementedpixie are you inputting my figures to get borderline?

dementedpixie · 25/08/2022 20:22

Weird. I used your figures and it gave a different % difference which is more in keeping with what I calculated

This is the energy we use annually which might change things

EtnaVesuvius · 25/08/2022 20:25

@Pittapatcat I agree with @dementedpixie - those figures don’t add up.

I wouldn’t fix at that.

How much credit have you got?

EtnaVesuvius · 25/08/2022 20:26

Btw, ML does sometimes get things wrong…

dementedpixie · 25/08/2022 20:26

Sorry I put in my own kwh usage but the prices are the same. I can't understand why the result would be different

Hugasauras · 25/08/2022 20:28

Perhaps to do with the ratio of standing charges to usage, which will be different depending on overall usage.

dementedpixie · 25/08/2022 20:28

It does change when I input your usage but the underlying prices are higher than what I would fix at
