To Ask Why EBay Won’t Just Pay Me?!

Sorry if this isn’t a very juicy AIBU but it’s irritating the shit out of me so was hoping someone would have an easy answer to this that I haven’t yet worked out! Have recently sold a few bits on eBay, the payment is still “on hold” by eBay despite it being a few weeks since some of these items were sold.
Upon contacting eBay, their online customer service assistant advised that I need to update my listed bank account details - there is an option to do this via somehow linking the eBay app and the online banking app. Tried to do this a few times and it didn’t work. Contacted eBay again and asked how I will be paid if I can’t update my bank details. No clear answer, just “update your bank details”. They already have my other bank account details for payments to be TAKEN, so why can’t they just use this information for me to RECEIVE payment? What am I missing?
The whole reason I’ve been selling random unwanted items on eBay is because I need the money, so there’s a slight level of urgency to this aside from it being bloody annoying.
Is anyone able to advise please? Thanks! Xx

My DP had this. Seemed to be no reason why on earth they wouldn't pay him to the bank account he pays them through which should be the only bank account he used for them anyway.

He eventually spoke to someone who released the payment to him. Apparently it was because he'd not sold anything for quite a long time and they thought it was suspicious he then sold a few items around the £20-30 mark. They said as he'd previously been a fairly frequent user they could agree to release.

I can kind of see where they're coming from as my stepmum stopped using her account and someone got into it and listed used motorbikes for sale. Why they kept dragging the lack of payment to my DP on with all the BS about the bank account I have no idea.

@PissedOffNeighbour22 thanks for your reply, so how did it get resolved - who/which team did he speak to? It seems ridiculous they won’t pay me because I need to “update my account details” when they already have bank account details they’re happy to deduct money from? And even when I’ve tried multiple times to update the details it hasn’t been allowed. So frustrating! I’m actually down money because I’ve been paying for postage on all the items I’ve sold without having any postage fees either as this is “on hold”

Yes same situation, they were heavy items around £10 each to post so he was down a fair bit of money. The bank issue just didn't seem to fit as he couldn't do anything to fix it so it seemed like he was being fobbed off.
I think he just called normal customer services (he's at work tonight so can't ask him now). He explained the issue and that there weren't any new bank details and that he'd tried numerous times to update his account and still couldn't get the money.
Maybe he was lucky who he spoke to but the guy agreed to manually release the funds as there were no security issues with the account, it just hadn't been used in a while.

I've just had the same thing, it's because I've not sold anything for a year. I removed my bank details and put the same ones back in again and it worked straight away.

GarthElgarsGlasses · 22/08/2022 22:08

@spongebunnyfatpants I tried doing this and it was having none of it. Why don’t they just be transparent and say they want to do some security checks etc rather than pretend there’s a bank issue?!

I agree, it's really annoying. Sorry I don't have anything else to suggest.
Hope you get it sorted.
