I have a visitor staying with me for a few days who was due to fly home this late this evening, but yesterday decided they would prefer an earlier flight.
Easyjets website says on the same day you can change your flight to an earlier one on the same day for a small fee. I could see there were 3 earlier flight options this morning all showing seats available.
To ensure we only had to pay the small fee rather than a full change fee, I woke up at midnight to make the change. The Easyjet app gave the 3 flight options, and every time I clicked the got an error message saying “normal manage booking operations are not allowed with early flight transfer”, so I couldn’t make the change. Customer services only open on the phone at 0600, too late for the first flight so no one I could speak to.
Undeterred, I thought we would change the flight at the airport given there were 3 flights to choose from. Drove to Gatwick this
morning at 0300 to find there is no longer a ticketing desk or any customer services desk. Huge queues at baggage drop where passengers now do their own tags rather than do it with a human and only a few staff managing the queues.
I explained my predicament and was told a Lead Agent supervisor could make the flight change for me. Tried to track down a supervisor only to be told that there is no supervisor available to do this and I would have to do this on the phone at 0600 which would have meant missing two the flights.
We gave up in the end and drove home, but I’m interested in opinions.
YANBU - you should be able to speak to a person at the airport to change a flight due to EasyJets app errors
YABU - you can’t expect a person to help these days at an airport
