I’ve seen a few people on mums groups hail this as a way to get some decent extra income.

anyone do it? How much you make? Care to offer a little walk through? Could use all the extra income I can scrape together

I did it for a while and made about £1200 from a £25 start. Join the team profit forums for a step by step guide. It's easy to start with, and the team profit videos are very clear and easy to follow. I stopped doing it because it takes a lot of time after the initial free bets run out. I might go back to it now though! If you follow the guides to the letter, you won't lose money and you will defo make some.

Sarahconnor1 · 22/08/2022 09:30

I do it,. I use oddsmonkey.

I've made approx £14000 so far, over 3 years.

My best advice, read the guides, then read them again before you start, but as soon as you get into the swing of it, it is really simple.

How long would you say it takes per day to turn a profit? Would you say it’s simple?

You can make money, but only if you treat it as a job. Sitting in front of your computer making bets that will only win you 20p a time, and doing that a couple of hundred times a day isn't for everyone.

You may be thinking of arbs rather than matched bets.

In its simplest form its easy to make a 3.75 profit from a 5 free bet and 7.50 from a 10 free bet. I can do each in less than 5 minutes.

skippy67 · 22/08/2022 10:23

Yes it's simple if you follow the guides. I'd never placed a bet at all before I started matched betting. I think it took 2 months to make my first grand? But I was very slow to start, and the football season had just finished. Betting on the football was easiest and more fun for me.

Forgive the stupidity here but when you run out of free bets, you pay presumably yeah? Can one easily make money then?

you only use free bets to make money, that is how it works. All bookies have offers of various types where you bet some money then get a free bet. So you lose a little bit to get the free bet but then what you make from the result of the free bet is where you make your money. Some offers are more complicated than others. You definitely need to join a proper site like team profit or odds monkey to know what the profitable offers are and to talk you through them, you can also then track your winnings and balances at different at bookies. It's quite complicated and I moved to doing casino offers using team casino as the offers are easier usually bet a certain amount then get a certain number of freespins or cash. With casino though it's not 100% guaranteed you will make a profit but probability is that you will if you follow the guides properly. I have made £10,000 in the last 2.5 years doing it, spending about 1 to 2 hours a day on it. Lots of people on there make much more than this spending more time doing more offers and higher risk ones.

fairgame84 · 22/08/2022 11:46

I did it a few years ago and made £1500 in around 6 months. Then I started getting banned from the decent sites so j gave up. Im tempted to restart though if money gets really tight.
I joined Oddsmonkey as it has step by step guides and it was really useful.

fairgame84 · 22/08/2022 11:49

I also did a few casino offers like @pisspants and got lucky made an extra £3000. There was a bit of drama as one of my £2k wins refused to pay out. I can't remember why but I went through resolver and got the money in the end. Casino seemed to take a lot of time to do and it felt a bit more stressful.

jetplanefuel · 22/08/2022 11:51

Ive done it for about 4 years and made around 70000 - mostly from sports but also some casino. It's like anything, the more time you put in, the more you get out.

I started with a tenner so it is doable. I used Profit accumulator as they have guides that walk you through everything and also always people on forums that you can ask for help

Dotjones · 22/08/2022 12:05

My experience reflects the general trend, it's easy enough to make £1000-£1500 profit over the course of six months but then becomes harder as bookmakers bar you from their promotional offers.

The way it works is:

  • Find a bookmaker with a "bet £10 get £10 free bet" offer

  • Bet £10 of real money on a selection (backing it to win)

  • Lay the same selection on an exchange like Betfair (backing the same selection to lose)

  • Whatever the result, you lose a few pence overall, but now have your free £10 bet

  • Bet the £10 free bet on another selection

  • Lay that selection on Betfair (for less than £10)

  • Whatever the result, you'll be 3 or 4 quid up if you've done it right.

  • Repeat with as many free bet offers as you can find, easy when you start out because all bookmakers want your business, but the number of offers thins out over time when they realise you're not placing "proper" bets with them.

I used this calculator.

Real example using a "bet £10 get £10 free bet" offer, with Betfair charging 2% commission on winnings:

  • Bet £10 (real money) on selection to win at 2.0

  • Lay £9.62 for a liability of £10.58 (real money) on selection to lose at 2.1 (lay odds are almost always higher)

  • If selection wins, you're +£10 at bookmaker and -£10.58 at exchange, a net loss of 58p.

  • If selection loses, you're -£10 at bookmaker and +£9.43 at exchange after commission, a net loss of 57p.

  • Bet £10 (free bet) on another selection to win at 2.0

  • Lay £4.81 for a liability of £5.29 at exchange (real money)

  • If selection wins, you're +£10 at bookmaker and -£5.29 at exhange, net profit of £4.71.

  • If selection loses, you're even at the bookmaker because it was a free bet, and +£4.71 at the exchange after commission.

  • So either way, across the two bets you have made over £4 profit. Which isn't much, but as you keep turning over the money, it builds up.

  • MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND IT BEFORE YOU RISK REAL MONEY. Practice with the calculator I linked to and look at real events.

  • Log all your bets to ensure you are making a profit overall.

  • Accept that when the free bets offers dry up, you have to stop matched betting. (Don't fall into the trap of mistaking your ability to follow a system for the ability to predict the outcomes of sporting events.)

  • Once you've built up a hundred quid or more on Betfair look for higher odds outcomes. The best money is made when selecting bets at higher odds. In my example above I did back bets at 2.0 and lay bets at 2.1. If the back bets were at odds of 20 and the lay bets at odds of 21, the profit would have doubled - but you'd need £181.20 in your Betfair account to cover the liability there.

  • Again, MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND IT BEFORE YOU RISK REAL MONEY.

Hi there. I hope you don't mind reviving this thread. I've personally tried it and made a few hundred dollars, but the amount you make depends on how much time and effort you put into it. Basically, matched betting involves placing bets on both sides of a sporting event to ensure you make a profit no matter what. It's totally legal and doesn't involve any gambling. If you're interested, there are plenty of online resources that can guide you through the process step by step. And if you're into cricket, you might want to check out cricket betting as another way to make some extra dough. Just remember to do your research and only bet what you can afford to lose. Good luck!~
