To not be very impressed with how dh told this story?

Dh was telling a group of people a funny story about a time when I'd fallen asleep in the car on a long journey and he'd got lost and couldn't wake me up.

All fine, expect he told everyone that I'd taken some tablets because I couldn't sleep. This is completely incorrect, I've never taken sleeping pills in my life. I had actually taken travel sickness tablets because I used to get very car sick that had made me feel drowsy.

I did correct him but I don't think anyone believed me.

Honestly I don’t understand the big deal, is there a reason you didn’t want people to think you’d taken a sleeping tablet?

Hotandbothereds · 21/08/2022 16:41

Bit weird, did he genuinely think they were sleeping tablets?

TeapotTitties · 21/08/2022 16:41

Errrrm ok yeah, it's a bit annoying so YANBU I suppose.

OppsUpsSide · 21/08/2022 16:41

Mountain and molehill spring to mind

ChloeKellyIsAnIcon · 21/08/2022 16:42

Slightly annoying but not a big deal.

ChickPeaChic · 21/08/2022 16:42

What’s the big deal? It’s not like he told them you’d taken heroin! Plenty of people take sleeping tablets sometimes, it’s nothing to be ashamed of and it’s a bit odd that you seem to think it is!

Does he have previous for making up parts of stories about you? Or is this a one off random occurance.

Gettingcosy · 21/08/2022 16:44

Ye that's fine, I just can't understand why he would say I'd taken tablets because I couldn't sleep. He knew I was car sick.

I guess I would see taking sleeping tablets as quite a big deal but maybe it's not. Especially the idea that I'd take them to sleep on a car journey!!

Antarcticant · 21/08/2022 16:44

Was he mistaken, or was it that saying they were travel sickness tablets would have required an explanation (link to drowsiness not obvious) which would have spoiled the flow of the anecdote?

Gettingcosy · 21/08/2022 16:45

I honestly don't know why he said it but he does have a habit of rewriting history a bit.

And unclench!

Siepie · 21/08/2022 16:46

I've taken melatonin before (in a country where it's available OTC). I really don't think that sleeping tablets are a bigger deal than any other medication.

It's a bit odd for him to change the story, but I wouldn't care if people thought I'd taken sleeping tablets.

Fair enough, we haven't fallen out over this or anything but I feel it makes me look a bit odd that I'd taken sleeping pills for a car journey.

LittleBearPad · 21/08/2022 16:47

I think you’re overreacting. They’re sleeping tablets nothing more

Aposterhasnoname · 21/08/2022 16:47

Umm, what? So what if you did/didn’t take sleeping tablets? Am I missing something?

haveiever · 21/08/2022 16:48

oh that’s awful, do you think your relationship will survive?

TeapotTitties · 21/08/2022 16:52

There's a lot that you've said you honestly don't know about.

Have you asked him?

Sunnyqueen · 21/08/2022 16:55

I take zopliclone regularly so don't see sleeping tablets as a big deal but it is a little odd he'd try to spin the story that way, doesn't really make much difference either way.

Gettingcosy · 21/08/2022 16:59

He says he doesn't know why he said it.

At the time I was laughing we were out at a meal and I said that it was travel sickness pills not sleeping pills. Afterwards I felt that I couldn't understand why he'd say that.

I think perhaps because of family history I have always thought of sleeping pills as being quite a serious medication but perhaps that isn't the case.

Sounds like a boring story. Why couldn’t he wake you up?

C152 · 21/08/2022 17:03

He was either trying to make his story sound better at your expense, or he is trying to build up an incorrect picture of you. Neither is good. I wouldn't be happy about it if I were you, especially as you said he has a tendancy to rewrite history.

Gettingcosy · 21/08/2022 17:05

Sounds like a boring story. Why couldn’t he wake you up?

Yeah it was a bit. He could wake me up I was just a bit drowsy and had fallen asleep in the car, it was dark and dh had got lost. It was all kind of exaggerated the way he told it.

tickticksnooze · 21/08/2022 17:05

I wouldn't think twice of a story where someone had taken a sleeping tablet. I certainly wouldn't judge them.

It sounds like the only reason you're bothered with what people will think of you over this is because of your past history, not because of how they're actually responding in the present.
