To be freaked out by this coincidence?

One of my dcs has just opened a student bank account and has just received the pin - it’s the same 4 digit number as their existing bank account with a completely different bank?!

How did this happen? Is there a glitch in the matrix?!

There's a one in 10,000 chance if her getting the same pin. With tens of millions of bank accounts in the UK, it has happened to thousands of people. No need to freak out.

I love little coincidences like that.
A PIN I got when I was younger was my DOB (day/month) and when I told it to my mum because she was getting some cash out for me, she told me off quite severely because that's such an obvious PIN. She wouldn't believe me when I said it'd come with that PIN, until I showed her the piece of paper with it on.

How odd! When I was at uni my student ID number was 1002683 and I’ve been assigned that number at random two other times in completely unrelated circumstances! So bizarre

Ma and my husband were given the same PIN by Barclays, completely separate accounts, four years apart.

When I was in halls, the back door had a Yale lock. It was the same as my bf's/xh's parents front door.

My DH and I have pins that are a single digit apart,

Two different banks.

More recently I suggested that we need to know each other's passwords for online banking and accessing documents on our computers etc 'just in case'.

Turned out we have an identical password save for the final digit of a number. It is a word and 3 digits. The password was something I chose (I thought) at random but there must have been something else going on with it as we both chose it!

My manager has set the code on her office door, to exactly the same one my best friend has on his gate.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/08/2022 13:25

My driving licence number is the same as my mum's old Co-op divi number. Spooky.

LivingNextDoorToNorma · 20/08/2022 13:27

My mam & my dh have the same number. I love those little coincidences.

BlankTimes · 20/08/2022 13:49

My 3 digit security code number on my bank card was the same 3 numbers as my car registration.

Scepticalwotsits · 20/08/2022 13:54

It’s possible. However why would they need to open a student account if they have a current account? Banks advertise ‘ student account’ as debt traps

choosername1234 · 20/08/2022 13:58

My first ever bank card pin was the same as the numbers in my national insurance number

I gave Dd1 my old phone with the condition she had to give me the password so I could check it occasionally. When she gave me the password it was the same as mine which she never knew. Mine was picked because of a significant event long before she was born that I've never discussed with her.
