Solo travel!!

So I’ve always wanted to go to the an island in the Indian Ocean because of various issues I’ve moved been. Now mid 50’s and looking at how finite life is, I want to go-it’s a definate bucket list!

Now here’s the thing- we have a child and if the both of us went, I would be afraid a tsunami may happen and we’d leave said child alone in the world😭. I’m happy to go there alone, what are your thoughts regarding this? Just to add I have no anxiety issues and am generally a fairly sensible person!

Sounds fine to travel alone. What’s the island? Dh and I travel to/used to live in an area prone to tsunamis (decimated by the Boxing Day tsunami). We’d love to take dc there and a potential tsunami would not put me off. I think the benefits to your child of travel would far outweigh the risk of a (very very unlikely) tsunami. And anyway it’s pretty rubbish to lose your parent in tragic circumstances too, so I think it’s a bit 6 and one half dozen. Why not take the chance and enjoy it together? That said, I’ve traveled solo in Asia and it was fine.

I'm not against solo travel, but this seems a very specific yet unlikely worry that I don't think it should put you off both going.

Can you look up the odds of being killed in a tsunami as a tourist and compare that with things you're not afraid to do - fly, drive, cross the road...

No, the child would not be coming.when I say child she’s 18!

Insane not to travel together for fear of a freak event. You’re at more risk going in the car to Asda or whatever.
