To not want to show my teeth in photos

I was reading the thread about the little boy who gets into trouble for pulling silly faces in photos and it prompted me to think about this which came up again recently.

I have a friend who likes taking selfies/pictures of us (aswell as her and others) when we go out to places to remember the day. My friend is fortunate enough to have a lovely set of white steaight teeth, however I don't.

Cue the camera in my face with her delightfully telling me to "say cheese"

I don't like to be a spoilsport so I do smile for the photos which I hate doing in the first place but it's a closed mouth smile.

Every single time she uhm's and ah's before conceding that it'll have to do.

AIBU to not show my teeth in photos? Does this ruin the pictures like somebody pulling silly faces?

I dont understand what the issue is or what AIBU about?

  • you have bad/crooked teeth you don't want to show

  • is a closed smile ok?

  • your friend insisting on pics???

Just tell your friend to cut it out, she's ring a bossy sod! Up to you what you do with your face. I'm the same (hopefully getting a brace soon).

You're smiling. You're not gurning. It's fine.

I wouldn't worry about the pictures, but you should get your teeth straightened if you can. You will never regret it.

Different situation and yanbu. Your friend is rude.

Yes, I have crooked teeth that I don't like to show in pictures.

She insists on taking pictures when we go places (once a month or so, so it happens alot) but then she gets disappointed with the pictures because I'm not smiling 'properly'

I wanted to know whether people think I'm spoiling the photos (unreasonable) or whether she's just being fussy.

I think she cares about the photos more than the friendship. It’s fine to not want to show your teeth or indeed not even want to be in photos at all.
