Job offer waiting hell

Posted in 30 days but so quiet there! Waiting to hear about dream job, a number of candidates being hired to build a team. My final interview went well, recruiter seemed very enthusiastic on follow ups, asked for reference checks.

Email sent to candidates on Monday morning saying we would hear ‘by the end of this working week’. AIBU to think it doesn’t look great that I haven’t heard a thing since?! Words of reassurance appreciated! X

no advice but I’m in a very similar position! Was told by the end of this week too and still not heard! The recruiter called me and I’ve got a teams call with the HR director tomorrow but it’s between me and one other currently. YELP.

have you reached out again to the recruiter just to double check? It’s a new kind of torture isn’t it!

Took a week after interview for my employer to offer me the (sole) post. I had given up hope!

Honestly - no. There are so many reasons why recruiters take a while to get back to both successful and unsuccessful candidates alike. Job offers have to be agreed by the whole hiring panel, the recruitment team, and in some cases finance or a senior manager. Only one of these people has to be busy/unavailable/on holiday/ sick for there to be a delay. I was offered two jobs recently, in both cases it took them so long to get back to me that I had given up! I've experienced this as a member of the hiring team too. It's a frustrating time for the candidate, but it's perfectly normal!

The thing that makes it worse here is that on Monday they were categorical that we would all hear by end of play tomorrow. My fear is that they are busy contacting successful candidates first? But because they are hiring several of us, my DH thinks it’s likely that they would reject first and it would take time to follow up on references for the successful ones…I think he might just be trying to make me feel better though?!

I’ve never ever heard about a job by the date they’ve said, however sure they sounded - these things always take longer than expected!

I'm in exactly the same boat Waiting so I feel your pain. I interviewed a couple of days ago and really, really want this job as I am so miserable where I am.

Had a text earlier today saying when could he call to talk (the interviewer) as he wants to discuss some good news. Then NOTHING.

The suspense is killing me.

Thank you Waiting. I GOT THE JOB. So bloody happy. 14 years of utter misery over in 4 weeks. New place and boss is like a breath of fresh air.

Well done @waiting911 and @Justcallmebebes I also got a new job this week! It’s an NHS band 6, been a 5 for too long so it’s lovely.

As for those waiting, I actually turned down a job offer on the day I got offered the 6. They had taken a month to send my informal Offer out for the band 5 which is why I went on this other interview. Anyway, I expect they will just phone the second choice candidate and they will have also received some nice news this week. That’s another reason why you sometimes don’t hear back for ages.
