How can they start clearing when not all pupils have their results?

AQA are delayed by at least 24 hours so that really creates an unfair playing field?

I'm not sure about the unfair playing field, but unless AQA gave every university / everyone involved in clearing lots of notice, then I'm not sure they'd be able to just shift it by 24 hours. They prepare for clearing way in advance with staffing and phone lines etc, it's hard to shift that all for every university that is participating in clearing. When my sister went through clearing it was horrendously stressful on her end, but every university she spoke to / the advisors on the phone were well prepared and helpful so you can tell how much work goes into it on their end.

AnguaResurgam · 18/08/2022 09:42

Clearing started some weeks ago, so those with known grades from last year who still didn’t have an offer got an even bigger head start.

I had no idea AQA we’re delayed - how utterly shite for pupils who are probably stressed to Betsy already

kittykarate · 18/08/2022 09:51

The Universities received the results on the Saturday before from UCAS, to allow them to do the 'got it/not got it' for first choice places, and to do offers.

So the results probably already exist, it's just that the AQA haven't done part 2 of the process, distributing to schools due to the strike action I guess.

So, I think it will affect those who didn't get their first choice places and are in the bunfight for places elsewhere.

ditavonteesed · 18/08/2022 09:53

The results literally don't exist, wjec as well.

mathsquestions · 18/08/2022 09:55

Well aware that clearing is a huge process with lots of preparation but this means that some entering the bunfight have an arm tied behind their backs.

Logistically universities can't just delay clearing for 24 hours. It's one of those situations in life that is extremely unfair but the people affected are helpless to do anything about it.

mathsquestions · 18/08/2022 10:03

So I guess, yes it’s unfair but that’s life.

Slightly confused - we have AQA results here, firm confirmed and also have clearing offers - what exactly is the issue?

ditavonteesed · 18/08/2022 10:21

Some results are not yet released as some aqa staff on strike. Dd is autistic and this is not helping, uni rejected based on only having one grade. She will prob meet requirements. So ridiculous

FlibbertyGiblets · 18/08/2022 10:25

oh no, dita I am so sorry, so stressful Sad

ShaunaTheSheep · 18/08/2022 10:26

Ah, not all results affected? Is it jus certain subjects? That's awful, how stressful.

ditavonteesed · 18/08/2022 10:27

I'm on hold trying to get through to uni could take a while

ShahRukhKhan · 18/08/2022 10:42

Clearing started on July 5th and will close on Oct 18th so moving it isn't a thing as it isn't just one day, it's been open for a while already. I do see your concerns that the majority of places might be taken-- hopefully it will be ok though as AQA is a huge provider, if they are delayed then the numbers of people able to phone the hotlines today will be less. Still give the unis a call, they may have some plan in place to deal with the situation.

brookstar · 18/08/2022 11:49

Clearing technically starts in July ......
There is no way universities can delay the clearing call centres which open today. It's just not possible

BTEC results are coming through. We are advising students with missing results to contact their exam board in the first instance.

mathsquestions · 18/08/2022 12:46

Clearing may open in July but everyone knows it kicks off in earnest today. Although I’m understanding the challenge I’m not opening today.

Very confused as seeing loads of schools announce results; presumably they haven’t used AQA - or chose them for the subjects they’ve announced.

Life isn’t fair!

We have AQA in Politics and Psychology and have had the results - what subjects are you waiting on?

ditavonteesed · 18/08/2022 13:13

We are waiting on psychology

Evvyjb · 18/08/2022 13:14

Yes, we've had our AQA results- what subject(s) are affected?

chocolateoranges33 · 18/08/2022 13:16

Ive just checked AQAs website to see if effects GCSEs next week and their statement says

"A-level results delivered to schools and colleges on time
Published: Wednesday 17 Aug 2022

We’ve delivered results on time to schools and colleges for AS, A-level, the Level 3 Certificate in Mathematical Studies, Functional Skills and the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification – ready for release to students on Thursday 18 August.

Our priority is always to make sure students get the results they deserve on time, and the pointless industrial action by Unison was never going to stop that.

The robust plans we have in place have prevented any disruption, and will continue to be effective with any future strikes.

Warm congratulations to all our students, and a huge thank you to all the teachers, exams officers and all our examiners and moderators who have played their part in helping deliver the first summer exam series for three years."

So Im unsure why not everyone has their results today? Is their statement untrue? Quite worrying if it is as then theyve lied.

Countingthedays22 · 18/08/2022 13:19

All our results for AQA came through fine? Didn't even know there was a delay.

mathsquestions · 18/08/2022 14:04

I’m even more confused

Cockerwalk · 18/08/2022 14:14

Another here with a full set of AQA results across the school! What subject are you waiting for?

ditavonteesed · 18/08/2022 14:17

No idea what's happening but we are still missing 2 results so can't go through clearing yet.
