Neighbours tiff....

mermaidtail · 18/08/2022 07:50

When I moved into my new house through a council exchange, the previous tenant told me she lets her Neighbour park on the drive & in exchange he cuts the grass.

He asked if he could continue parking there & I agreed (not wanting to cause any upset when I have only just moved to the area)

Since then my sister has been staying and she has a car. She's been parking in front of my car (essentially blocked in by both vehicles) so whenever she wants to go out I have to move etc. recently my neighbour has twice asked my sister to move her car, once because she parked in 'his spot' and second because we came home to find he had blocked us out so had no choice but to park across the drive.

The last 3 nights his parking spot has been vacant, I don't want him parking on my drive anymore, especially now winter is coming and I'm having to park on the grass. My sister will be gone soon but he is being a bit cheeky with it now. He hardly cuts the grass as agreed either. I kind of just want my front garden / parking space back.

What would you do?

Tell him the deal is off.

He has his own drive? Why is he not parking on it?

Have you lost the power of speech?! Go see him and tell him you have people staying regularly so it no longer works. Thank him for his grass cutting. Wish him a good day. Say goodbye. Walk back to your house.

Just tell him it's no longer possible for him to use your drive

This comes down to that weird concept of Talking To Someone In Real Life

This. Grow a spine and go and tell him it's no longer allowed. Especially since he's treating it as his space, it's not his space, not even his land. His parking issues are not your concern.

Go round and tell him that the arrangement isn’t working for you, and as you’ve seen that his drive is often unoccupied, you thought this would be time to let the arrangement come to an end. Be nice and smiley about it but also firm and confident.

CatsAreCrackers · 18/08/2022 09:15

I'd hate to do it too, but it's time to get your big girl pants on and just tell him you don't want to have to park on your grass as it's going to get damaged with the wet weather so unfortunately you can't let him park on your drive anymore. Sorry about that, bye.

SweetBabyCheeks · 18/08/2022 09:22

The deal benefits him more than it benefits you. Tell him the deal doesn't work for you anymore.

mermaidtail · 18/08/2022 14:50

I just think it's pretty cheeky when his partners car hasn't been parked there for 3 days!!!!

Are you worried about how he'll react when you tell him that it isn't working for you now, and you want you drive back and you'll cut your own grass?

I would definitely politely let him know that him deal is off - today - and definitely whilst you sister and her car are still here. You're going to be parking on your drive and cutting your own grass.

Peashoots · 18/08/2022 20:22

This is such a weird arrangement to have in the first place. Tell him the deals off and he needs to stop parking on your drive.

StoneofDestiny · 18/08/2022 20:38

Tell him the deal is off and get a penguin bollard put in.
