Posting here for traffic sorry- as I’ve asked before but not found anyone who took it to induce periods!

if you took it to induce periods after stopping the pill (been 8 months with no period since stopping, so doctor prescribed me it for 2 weeks), did it work for you?

thanks!

Also as we want to TTC, if you took it to induce periods and it worked, how long did it take to get pregnant? Thanks.

I've only ever used it to delay periods, I thought that's what it was for rather than to bring them on?

Cigal · 17/08/2022 13:08

Yes think they also can be used to delay them!

Me too - if you live in the UK you wont be able to get it anyway - completely out of stock!

Not true. A chemist told me that last week... found it in stock on line in various places.

Only ever used it to delay periods but taking the pill for a short time can have a similar effect in regulating periods I believe - might not work in your case though given you've come off the pill!

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 17/08/2022 13:33

I've had it prescribed 3 times this year, the last time end of May - I tried around 6 chemists before I could get it all. I would recommend ordering it sooner than needed to make sure you get it in time

Metformin worked for me. Periods didn't return after breastfeeding my first baby. I don't have PCOS or diabetes but the Dr said they have been known to regulate periods. Less than two weeks after stating, I had a period and four weeks on, a positive test! It's worth asking your Dr if they will try that? This was two years ago.

Oooh ok! I’ll definitely ask about this if these don’t work then

Ah ok… So when you stop taking Norethisterone… is it a ‘fake’ period similar to when you have your week break in the pill?

I took it to try and regulate my periods, which did not work at all! I spotted everyday for months whilst on it :(

I have also taken it to delay periods whist younger which was effective.

It gave me bad side effects everytime, but my body does not agree with many forms of hormonal BC annoyingly! I think it's different for everyone :)

I’m not having any side affects (weirdly as I read so many… makes me think it’s not doing it’s job!)

Hi, used it both to stop and induce. Needed to induce a period so I could start taking ovulation meds. It did work for me. It was 5 years ago though so can't remember the dosage and timeframes. The cycles I didn't fall pregnant on with fertility meds, the bleeds were horrendous and really heavy, I can't say for certain if it was the norethisterone or the other meds or a combo.

Cakecakecheese · 17/08/2022 17:17

I took it to bring on a period for my IVF. Didn't have any side effects.

and was the period after an actual period, or a ‘fake’ one similar to the week break when taking the pill?
