Sleeveless T-shirt and swimming shorts

It’s hot where we are (abroad) and dh *Keeps wearing this. I really can’t stand a sleeveless t-shirt top thing on a guy 😬and with his swimming shorts and flip flops.
He used to wear a nice short sleeved shirt, shorts and flip flops.
Everytime I see him come downstairs in it (which is pretty much every time at the moment) I think 😩
He gets pissed off if I ever mention anything about what he’s wearing.
Does anyone else have scenarios like this?
He also has an awful winter jacket thing with fur collar..,not like a woman’s one 🤣like a flying jacket type thing….but I hate it!
Aibu to want to chuck these items in the bin 🤷🏻‍♀️

How would you react to him criticising your clothes?

Nowtonthebox · 16/08/2022 22:02

@mrsmalcolmreynolds Exactly…that’s why I don’t say anything
He no doubt does hate some of mine!
I just really hate the sleeveless t-shirt look

I know what you mean. Sleeveless t shirts never, ever look good on men, they always look better in other things.

Nowtonthebox · 16/08/2022 22:14

@Penguinsaregreat I just think it looks a bit…🤷🏻‍♀️Chavvy, I don’t know, not that smart 🙈

By the pool - okay, in the restaurant - unacceptable! 🤣

Nowtonthebox · 16/08/2022 22:19

@PutinIsAWarCriminal Exactly! It seems to be for everywhere at the moment, a range exactly the same but in different colours 😬

He gets pissed off if I ever mention anything about what he’s wearing.

Or

Exactly…that’s why I don’t say anything

Which is it?

You sound very controlling, I would find you very annoying if I was him.

He’s just trying to keep cool and wear what he wants. Let him be.

Nowtonthebox · 16/08/2022 22:33

@phishy Ive said in the past a casual ‘Oh are you wearing that?’ I realise that’s annoying (not controlling 🤷🏻‍♀️) so don’t say it now…but…I still think it 😬

If he asks you for an opinion, fine - tell him you're not keen. But nitpicking at people for their clothes is really annoying and (having been in relationship where someone did that) not great for self-esteem.

My DP has zero interest in clothes and sometimes if we're going out for a meal or something he'll say 'Will I be OK in trainers?' or 'I was going to wear a t-shirt, do you reckon that's all right?' and I'll say 'A proper shirt would be nicer' or 'If they're your nice black Converse, but not if they're your other ones' or something. But I wouldn't say 'Why are you wearing that, it looks awful'.

FourEyesGood · 17/08/2022 09:56

YABU. If it’s hot, sleeveless is way more comfortable than short sleeves. At least he’s not walking around topless - now that WOULD be unreasonable of him.

dudsville · 17/08/2022 09:56

I sew so I do a bit of "make do and mend" when needed. I've just repaired my OH's favourite shirt. I do not like the shirt but I did a good job because it's HIS favourite shirt, and because he is not me. I have taken the whole prairie wife dress style on board as it's comfy and I can't get enough plaid/check in my life. He doesn't like it, but he also knows I am not him.

LoveKingGary · 17/08/2022 10:01

I honestly think my DH looks great in everything! And a sleeveless top would show off his nice arms.

gannett · 17/08/2022 10:28

Penguinsaregreat · 16/08/2022 22:04

I know what you mean. Sleeveless t shirts never, ever look good on men, they always look better in other things.

They look good on men with nice arms.

Not that that's the point - if he feels comfortable in them he should be able to wear them without anyone nitpicking. In this weather sleeveless tops are obviously more comfortable.

OP, YABU for using the word "chavvy". I thought everyone realised a decade ago that it's a class-based slur. It wouldn't be acceptable in any social circle I'm in.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 17/08/2022 10:37

YABU. Wait till you're asked.

I never understand this thing some people have about being embarrassed by what someone else is wearing just because you are being seen with them. I honestly couldn't give a shit.

The most ridiculous outfit in the world, the biggest lack of style (subjective opinion anyway) doesnt reflect on me, so why would I care? I don't dress my husband. He's an adult.

Nowtonthebox · 17/08/2022 13:35

@gannett 🙄

How annoying.

For your DH.

He is entitled to wear what he likes without having someone constantly moaning about his choices.

Imsupertangirl · 17/08/2022 13:40

This made me laugh!

I asked my husband to wear something nice for a meal out on holiday.
He had a bright yellow t-shirt and swimming shorts with sea creatures in them. Plus swimming shoes!
I was initially a little cross, but then remembered his relaxed attitude to life is what makes me love him and he’s really not interested in clothes, so it doesn’t occur to him to care.

We still had a lovely meal out and it was ok in the end.

CruCru · 17/08/2022 13:41

I know what you mean. I don’t like seeing strange men’s hairy armpits so I don’t much like sleeveless tops on men. I used to go out with someone with pale skin and very dark, sprouty armpit hair (no chest hair) and it looked weird when he wore a sleeveless top.

itsthesoundofthepolice · 17/08/2022 13:47

When it's hot and sunny wearing them during the day is fine and way more comfortable than a polo shirt or short sleeved shirt. I know I'm wearing vests or sleeveless dresses and DH has far nicer arms than I do 💪🏼

If he was wearing it out to somewhere nice for lunch or of a nighttime when it's dressier then that's different.

Is he's comfortable and likes wearing them I couldn't get wound up about it TBH

DustinsHat · 17/08/2022 13:50

Maybe he's going for the Stranger Things vibe Grin

Sleeveless T-shirt and swimming shorts
SkankingWombat · 17/08/2022 13:57

YABU. He's happy and comfortable, plus it's better than huge sweat patches under his arms if unsightliness is such an issue, surely?

Nowtonthebox · 17/08/2022 14:01

@DustinsHat 🤣
