Getting around London when the railways are on strike

I have emailed TFL for information, but I'm too impatient to wait. How do you get around London when the railways are on strike, just how do you do it,?
Are the tube drivers on strike at the same time?
We have to drive from the Midlands then we park at Cockfosters usually, & get the tube in.
We need to get to Wembley Park. We could park at Stanmore & hope there is a bus from Stanmore to Wembley.
Could we get a bus instead? I've looked on the Internet but the amount of info & advice is baffling. So if anyone knows where to look, or indeed has the answers already on buses to Wembley stadium from Stanmore or Cockfosters I'd be truly grateful

There is a rail strike on Thursday, so the tube will still be running and a tube strike on Friday, when the train will still be running and there are extra buses put on too. When are you travelling?

PowerPack · 15/08/2022 21:53

I'd drive to Wembley personally.

Haus1234 · 15/08/2022 21:54

Buses! Use Google Maps or Citymapper to plan bus routes.

This may help you tfl.gov.uk/campaign/strikes

I'm afraid it is 3 buses from Stanmore to Wembley Park. Not ideal

SoftSheen · 15/08/2022 22:07

I'd get a taxi, especially if there are several of you. It probably would be possible, and cheaper, to get buses, but probably a long journey.

Unglamorousgranny · 15/08/2022 22:27

Thank you all for your help. We don't know when we're travelling yet, but it will probably be on a Saturday or Sunday.
@PowerPack we live in the countryside in the Midlands and commute to small towns, we're defo not London drivers. The thought of it puts the fear of God into me! We usually drive to Cockfosters as it's an easy run, park up & get the tube in.

I guess we could get a taxi if desperate. I assumed the taxi drivers would increase their fares a lot to take advantage of the rail strike

Can you not just drive? That's what I would do.

Unglamorousgranny · 15/08/2022 22:35

@mattressspring we're a bit nervous driving around London as we're not city drivers. All those lanes & fast moving traffic. I think we'd be a liability to everyone else. For some reason though we can cope with a motorway and most of the time we park at Cockfosters & get the tube. We thought we'd get to Stanmore station instead as it's at the top of the line for Wembley.

If you are coming from the Midlands are you close to the M40? IMO if you are coming in this way drive M40 on to A40 and park at Hillingdon. It is a quite short tube journey from there (one change) to Wembley and the parking is usually fairly good and the driving is easier down the M40 than on other routes from the Midlands.
