To think this is taking advantage?

My son bought the last two Match of the Day magazines because he wanted to get the wall planner with Premier League pieces you can move about each week to show the league positions. He’s just had a tizz because he’s found out he still needs to buy two more magazines to get the whole set.
Each magazine has been around two weeks’ worth of pocket money. He’s now invested in two magazines so doesn’t want to give up, but the prospect of a months’ worth of pocket money on two more has really annoyed him.
I could just buy the last two for for him, but AIBU to think MOTD are taking advantage of kids?? I’d like him to learn the value of money, but equally, it’s a ridiculous price! £28 for 4 magazines?!
I was going to get him a subscription for his birthday but the whole thing has pissed me off and I don’t want to pay MOTD more!!
More of a rant than an AIBU but humph!!

I can understand your perspectives op.

That's how they make money.
They wouldn't make any money if everything was given away in one or two editions.

It is a bit of a rip off. Compromise, you buy him one and he buy the other.

You get the same things with those craft magazines they bring out from time to time, ie, build The Cuttysark, first part ONLY £1.99. Then you read the small print and find that to build the whole thing, it's going to cost you £999.00 or something ridiculous. I do wonder how many people buy the first magazine and then keep buying to the end. Must have more money than sense! However, as far as your DS is concerned, I think I'd explain to him how often he'll come across this sort of thing in life, and maybe buy the last two for him, as he wasn't prepared.

If I could afford it, I'd probably buy them. He's bought the other 2 himself so if he'd use them for the season ahead it'd be an investment.

Yeah we just had a chat. Life lessons and all that… I’ll go with him buying one and me buying one. Thanks for listening to my whinge!
