My friend isn’t interested to hear anything that’s not positive

I have a friend who I’ve known since college. We get on very well but something I’ve really noticed the last few years is if something I say isn’t always positive or I’m going through something difficult she doesn’t really engage or say anything.

I don’t like to tell people my problems and keep things to myself usually, if anything I’ve had other friends say I don’t open up enough and it’s because I don’t like burdening people with it and being negative. However I really just needed to vent and talk about something my husband and I were going through that was upsetting me and she just wasn’t interested, it was a bit awkward and I felt stupid opening up and went back to positive chat.

AIBU to think I should be able chat to who is supposed to be a good friend about personal things that are affecting me occasionally?

Some people panic or don't know how to respond when a friend comes to them with a problem. I wouldn't look to share problems with this friend in the future if I were you, and I would decide whether or not I wanted a friend that I could only discuss positive topics with going forward.

I have had a habit in the past of playing therapist to friends and getting very little back. I often worried about my friends' problems in my free time. I had to decide to cut down on my input and support towards these friends. Your friend might have had a similar experience with a different friend and now generally avoids talking through issues with friends. Who knows.

Do you think this is general issue no matter what the problem or might the particular problem have been hard for her for some reason?
