Whose cheapest on glasses Vision Express or Specsavers?

Using Specsavers currently but have a voucher for a free Eye test at VE then 30 per cent off glasses over 50 pounds.
You have to buy the glasses at VE to get the discount.
At Specsavers the eye test wouldn't be free?

Does anyone know if there is much difference in cost between SS and VE please.
Never used VE.

Unlikely as the test result could be that you need any!

VE are more expensive and imo better quality.

I had a look at VE as wasn't sure on anything in Spec savers and thin VE is more expensive paid £300 for 2 glasses 1 sunglasses 🕶️ and thin and light which I need at spec savers.

Asda if you have a store with opticians close enough especially if you need expensive lenses such as thinned or varifocals as they are included in their standard prices.

Spec savers would be my bet for cheapest. Last time I was in Vision Express (about 3-4 years ago almost all frames were designer and pretty pricy. I was looking for glasses for computer work that my employer contributes to so wanted to keep cost (to me) lower. I went with Boots optician as I found frames I liked but Specsavers were similarly priced.

Im in Scotland where eye tests are free but I’d bet that the free test + £50 off at Vision Express will still end up more expensive than eye test + glasses at Specsavers. You can also get your prescription from any optician and take it to wherever you find frames you like (including online)

VE have frames starting at £25, SS start at £19 but you need to know if you are likely to want anti reflective coatings, reactor lenses or if you need thinner lenses (which come with antireflective coating) due to a stronger prescription. In which case I would recommend Asda optician as their thinner lenses don’t have an extra cost.

have a look through the frames they both offer, there’s no point having a free test and 30% off if you can’t see a frame you like.

Neither - I’ve ordered my last few pairs of glasses through www.glassesdirect.com & I’d never pay the prices of an optician now.

Get your prescription done, then order online - they’ll send you out frames to try before you order.

VE has always been at least double the cost when I've looked at both for my glasses with thinner lenses.

Vision express is expensive, glasses direct online, Asda then Specsavers in that order.

Specsavers is usually cheaper and offer really good discounts.

you can order glasses online but I personally wouldn’t. You need the measurement between your pupils- sometimes an optician will provide you with this but not always and measuring it on yourself is extremely difficult. I can’t even measure my own accurately.

if you have a high prescription it’s even more important that this measurement is accurate. Also, for things like varifocals and for very high prescriptions they will need measurements of where your eyes are vertically in the lenses- if this isn’t accurate it will really affect your vision. If you go into an opticians these measurements are taken by trained staff and more accurate than doing it yourself at home.

Asda did my DH 2 pairs of bifocals (one was sunglasses) for £120 a couple of weeks ago.
Included eye test.

In my experience, SS.

Specsavers are cheaper. I paid £140 last week for eye test, and 2 pairs ( 1 prescription sunglasses ).
I wasn't happy with vision express - poor quality and cost more.
Though, my dh swears by asda, so maybe look there.

Have been to both Vision Express and Specsavers and really hard to compare prices due to all the different amd changing offers. My last two sets of glasses were from Vision Express and the varifocals were very affordable. Great servive too without any upselling. Agree about Asda being cheapest but I had to return several times to have screws replaced in both pairs I bought from there. I look after my glasses and have never had this experience before or since.

I can't in order to get the free Eye test I need to buy the glasses from Vision Express then you also get 30 per cent off the glasses.

I changed from Specsavers to Vision Express and was really disappointed with the glasses. I never could see properly with them and was fobbed off when I went back.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat , I got mine just before Lockdown. I was cleaning them, when they fell apart. As soon as Lockdown was over, I went back ( thankfully my dh is handy with superglue). I asked for a new pair, no can do - they fixed them and same again!!
Sorry for the vent - I am considering therapy !!

Specsavers are cheaper by a long shot, vision express costs a fortune.

Asda! Asda have some great glasses and also if you need varifocals etc.... they are included in the price.

Just collected my new varifocal reactor light glasses and varifocal sunglasses from Asda Optician. So impressed with them. £400 cheaper than Specsavers and £400 cheaper than my local optician. Recommend Asda opticians. Quick efficient service. Great customer service.
