... To think I don't want to move house yet

Lucky to have a big house in a town centre, with 3 adult children still living with us. Friends keep asking when we are going to downsize. We have been here nearly 30 years and are mortgage free. Why do people assume that at our age (close to 60 but not there yet) we must have got rid of the kids and moved to the coast by now?

At 50- something, I don't think you need to.
But I remember my Grandmother downsizing when she must have been approaching 70. Everyone told her it was far to early, but she was one of the few who actually did move. Most of her mates left it too late, and stayed in the oversized, hard to manage, family hone til the end.

So, I'd consider doing it in the next 10 years.
