Does anyone know if owning a 4% share in a relative’s house would exclude me from buying a house via shared ownership scheme?

You cant own any part of another property, as far as I know. So yes, it would.

i think I expected that but frustrating as I can’t really do anything with it.

A 4% share is tiny...could your relative not just buy you out, and you could use the money towards the shared ownership property? Or are we talking 4% of somewhere like Chatsworth, and its a family trust? How does 4% of a house happen?

If its a normal house, you could ask the relative to gift your share to your children or something and free you up to buy this one. But no, you cant buy a Shared Ownership property if you own another one, even as a part-owner.
