horrifying. I thought this house wife house proud stuff belonged in the 1990s?

Honestly this is one time I would love to hear the other side of the story.....

applegrumbles · 13/08/2022 16:47

I don’t believe for one second that any of those are actually about real people.

missbipolar · 13/08/2022 16:49

@startrek the article gives you both sides?

MotorwayDiva · 13/08/2022 16:54

I think you can be house proud and also have fun, we only get this heat a few days a year and should be able to enjoy it.

ldontWanna · 13/08/2022 16:58

The issue seems to be that they're each just one thing and complete opposites.

Ideally, if they can't change they need to try and compromise so everyone gets what they need. Bullshit like that paper article, makes that unlikely.

cookiecreammmpie · 13/08/2022 17:05

I let my kids do things like that but it's understandable that there will be times when you want the house clean and tidy and for it to stay that way. If I've spent all day clearing up after them I'd be pissed off if husband came home and started encouraging them to make more mess. I'm not really house proud but that doesn't mean I want mess all the time. It's not all one way or the other.

It’s on there.

This describes my dh tbh. He is real misery when it comes to summer. Don’t want the kids outside because it’s too hot. Don’t want them making noise because it might disturb the neighbours.

I agree about water balloons and water guns at the moment, because my garden is tiny and there is no room to run around but if we have a bigger garden, I would let them do that too

Phos · 13/08/2022 17:11

I let my daughter do stuff like that. She's an only so I'm usually involved and often initiate it. I do limit paddling pool use but that's due to current water situation. I like having a tidy house but if the water play is outside what's the problem.

Robin233 · 13/08/2022 19:46

OMG
I'm super house proud but honestly those poor kids.
I loved seeing by kids enjoying the paddling pool
Relax and enjoy.
It'll be October before you know it

It’s clearly made up. For a start there won’t be many 30/early 40s couples called Linda and Roy.

clary · 13/08/2022 20:08

Haha that is sooooo made up! Ethel and Mabel, Linda and Roy? Also why is she “at home with them all day” when they are at school? And why doesn’t she go out with them in the holidays? What nonsense. Could do better The guardian.
