Deodorant for an 11 year old

mamma2013 · 13/08/2022 10:39

Hi,

My dd asked me to get her some deodorant yesterday for the first time. she owns lots of girly scents but I didn't think about her wanting actual deodorant for a while. I get the impression her friends use it and while I don't think she needs it yet who am I to tell her she can't use it

Anyway my question is what do I buy for an 11 year old? Is there something nice and natural that I should be buying?

If this is an odd question I apologise, I recently lost my dm very suddenly and I am feeling a little lost as I'd always ask her opinion on stuff or even as a sounding board. Totally off topic but incase I'm not making sense.

I’m going to give my daughter one of my moo goo deodorants ( day meets chemists stock it)

You are actually quite right in asking as some ingredients can cause harm. I do not buy anti perspiration or anything with aluminium. I quite like the eau dinamizante red one from Clarins but it is incredibly dear.

Do they cause harm though?

CornishTiger · 13/08/2022 15:22

Also tempted by Sam farmer. Prefer not to block actual perspiration.

Sanex roll on is great!

Some sanex is only a deodorant now and not an antiperspirant so you need to read the labels

DD likes the salt of the earth scented ones (we use the scent less crystal but she finds that tricky)

I'm so sorry for your loss 💐

I get my 11 year old GD Sure or any other spray. Sorry about your mum x

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/08/2022 15:26

I started my dc on [[https://www.scrubbingtons.com/pages/pitstop Scrubbingtons.

They both (10, 13) use Sure/Dove roll ons now, but having used Wild for the last 6 months, I'm going to get them one each.

It's a very odd question

Why do you think normal deodorant isn't suitable for your 11 year old

Who tbh most likely does need it

Because OP doesn't know if a product used by adults is also suitable for children. There are products aimed at teens but these tend to be deodorants rather than antiperspirant.

OP maybe your dd can try one of yours or buy something similar. See if she prefers spray, stick or roll on.

FlippertyGibberts · 13/08/2022 15:38

I like the PitRok salt crystal deodorant. It's not an anti-perspirant, but it stops any sweat from smelling. It will also last until the end of time 😄, and so be very cost-effective.

PollyRockets · 13/08/2022 15:38

@dementedpixie

Goodness, they really do walk among us

ForestofD · 13/08/2022 16:03

Just gently let your child know that it make take a few goes before they find one they like. We went through a couple before she settled on the Mum unscented roll on. She realised that it was the smell she didn't like rather than the feel. Good luck.

ShakespearesSisters · 13/08/2022 16:05

Wild deodorant. I'm really impressed. It's not classed as antiperspirant but I sweat less and smell better than any 'standard' antiperspirant deodorants.

Thepeopleversuswork · 13/08/2022 16:07

My DD is also 11 and has been using (adult) deodorant for about a year. The teachers at her school encouraged it too. I think the more prepared they feel for puberty the better.

Janedoe82 · 13/08/2022 16:08

My daughters use soft and gentle. They do rose one and a vanilla that are quite girly and young. Roll on.

Canyousewcushions · 13/08/2022 16:15

I've been using wild for a few months too and love it- have recently bought it for me 10year old. It's deodorant rather than antiperspirant so more gentle, also available in a sensitive skin version. It's vegan/cruelty free and they have some lovely scents- stuff like candy floss, raspberry ripple which are fun.

Even without the antiperspirant I find it smells nice all day, even when I'm hot.

StaunchMomma · 13/08/2022 16:17

My 9 year old DS has been using it for well over a year and I know most of his friends are using it too.

His pits stink!

StrawBeretMoose · 13/08/2022 16:25

Sorry about your mum OP, it's normal to be flummoxed by everyday things at such a time. 💐

My mum gave me Mum for my first deodorant. I'm not brand loyal but might try Wild based on so many recommendations. I bought Bionsen a month ago and on each occasion that I've used it I smelled of BO before the day was over, and I'm not usually a sweaty Betty.
