Had a call from someone I haven’t spoken to in a few years, think like 3 to 4 years. They never knew my number either. AIBU to think this is a bit weird?

Couldn’t have been Facebook, and they didn’t know any of my other friends

They probably asked Arora nd and asked others to also ask until they found someone who had your number.

Or they or someone they know works in a field where they would have access to people's contact details.

Cloudsareheaven · 13/08/2022 09:56

Should I report them for potential stalking??

They found my number when I didn’t want to speak to them again and called me, stalking and harassment? What else do they know about me? They could know where I live ffs

Facebook
Google
Asked a friend
Looked your name up and your number was linked to it somewhere

Why would it be stalking?

applegrumbles · 13/08/2022 09:59

Do they know you don’t want to speak to them?
Stop drip feeding and tell us the background!

So could lots of people if your address is on the internet or you're on the public electoral roll.

It's not stalking to look someone up online and call them. If you don't want to speak to them, just ask them to leave you alone and block their number.

If they had any idea Of social cues they should know what it meant back then when I blocked them on social media

You could try to Google yourself and see if your number happens to be public anywhere, then get your information removed.

IncompleteSenten · 13/08/2022 10:02

Is it someone you have previously had problems with?

If you feel worried that someone you are scared of is trying to find you then yes, talk to the police.

Heroicallyl0st · 13/08/2022 10:03

Btw and if you have their number so you can block it on your phone.

You can't go on what you think someone else should have understood.

I would send them one very clear message saying never contact me again or I am reporting this to the police.

Can I definitely report it to the police though??

X post.

Well that's a really nice way to respond to someone just trying to suggest things that might help you when we have no idea on the backstory

FFS yourself.

No, why would you?

Seeline · 13/08/2022 10:09

You can report what you like. Whether the police willbe able to do anything is a completely different matter.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 13/08/2022 10:10

Then surely you just block them again, or you send a message saying you don’t know how they got your details but you don’t want to be in contact again and please stop. You can even say that if they do contact you again you’ll report them for harassment, though one contact might not meet that threshold - but it would show them you’re serious.

There are plenty of people who would have good reason to be scared if someone from their past tried to contact them, so don’t be so quick to dismiss PP’s post about safety. It is a genuine concern for women who have escaped abusive relationships and very hard to deal with. If yours is just a failed friendship or a family member you don’t like, then it’s easy to handle.

Blowthemandown · 13/08/2022 10:11

You can call on Messenger without knowing the number even if you’re not FB friends @Cloudsareheaven

weekendninja · 13/08/2022 10:14

This is not harassment in the eyes of the law. There has to be a course of conduct and the person contacting you ought to know that their contact amounts to harassment.

Just message them, tell them you want no further contact and block. From what little information you have given this is not a police matter.
