11 days old- bedroom over 30c- tips?

Hi all
My newborn is 11 days old and I’m concerned our bedroom is super hot, it’s over 39 degrees! I’ve had the blinds shut all day but it’s south facing so always warm.
I’m breastfeeding and it’s getting rather warm, any tips to keep us cool and safe?
I’m starting to worry about keeping the baby cool.

any help is appreciated

Is there a cooler room you can move to temporarily?

Do you have a fan?

Keep the baby in just a nappy

A damp muslin will cool you down

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/08/2022 17:55

If it's less than 39degrees outside then open all the windows, doors and your loft hatch to let the cooler air circulate around your house. It should be cooling down outside now, it's not going to be cold tonight but certainly less than 39.

Are you breastfeeding make sure you are hydrated.

Quitelikeit · 12/08/2022 17:57

That’s worrying as I’d be concerned the baby would be too cold by about 3/4/5 in the morning

do you have a thin blanket? Can you sleep in the living room with baby in Moses?

yyy to a cool wet muslin over the forehead especially in the hotest hours

maybe keep it in fridge

Whatwouldyoudo2021 · 12/08/2022 18:00

Thank you all for your replies, the whole house is hot, the living room has south facing bifold doors so you can imagine how hot they are, we’ve had the big thermal curtains shut all day.
she’s breastfed, we’ve got a fan and cool damp muslins, I’m just so worried she’s going to get too warm. The past couple of nights she’s gone to bed in her nappy and when she’s woke at 3am ish I’ve put a vest on her.
I’ll get the loft hatch open

Cooler room ....
Fan with air running thought an airier with wet sheets hanging over it
Just a nappy

Classicblunder · 12/08/2022 18:07

For you, I recommend a cold wet muslin under your boobs - sorry if this is TMI but I think lactating really heats you up there

NotADaffodil · 12/08/2022 18:11

Our house is the same; south facing and lots of glass making it like a greenhouse even in cool weather!

During the last heatwave we taped kitchen foil over all the bifold doors and windows, the foil seemed to work alot better at keeping rooms cool than just closing the blinds. We also kept the doors and windows closed until it got a bit cooler in the evening and kept the loft hatch open too

Sounds crazy but we've put tin foil on our bedroom windows with masking tape, shiny side facing out. It has really helped to keep temperature down a few degrees. Also acts as a blackout. This tip was given to me by a friend who lived in India for several years. Congratulations on your newborn

I resorted to buying a portable air con unit on next day delivery when my youngest was that age during a heatwave. I also agree with the suggestion of taping foil to all the windows.

Yep we did the same. Still use it every night in weather like this. Not cheap but worth it if you can afford it.

Don't put the fan directly on the baby. And no wet flannels on the baby eother

I have a couple of those shiny windscreen covers for when it snows, I hung them vertically over the south facing patio doors during the last heat wave, not perfect but a bit helpful.
