AIBU about my dog walker

AIBU about the state my dog walker left dog / house in ?
I am prepared to be told IABU but need an objective opinion!
Background- Dog does like rolling in things
Dog walker walks dog 1/2 a
Week
DH is in hospital and has just finished 3rd round of Chemo (this is relevant to my opinion!)

Dog walker walked dog today and rang me as I was on my way home saying he had rolled in human poo - she had washed him and his collar but there were still twigs in the bath (!)
When I got home - 20 mins later - dog was wet - there were twigs and some poo in the bath
The collar was hanging up on the kitchen sink taps with some poo in the sink - the kitchen smelt of poo - the collar had been washed with floor cleaner
Now my x2 AIBU:

  1. Yes she washed dog and collar but WHY in the kitchen sink - why not keep all the yukky things in 1 place?
  2. I texted her to ask where in the park this had happened so if there was a sewage leak the council could (perhaps!) fix it She replied - it was in the smelly corner of the park I was with my teen DD who knows the park and she said it was the area she and her friends avoid as the homeless people go there (which is sad in itself) and to get to this bit you have to go out of the way a bit so WHY not avoid this bit of the park if you walk dogs? AIBU ? DH is hopefully due to have a home visit if his blood cells etc come up tomorrow so maybe I am over cautious at thinking of these germs in the house when he has a v v weakened immune system at the mo I rewashed dog as he still smelt and chucked out the collar Maybe this is just the risk of using a dog walker ?

I'm amazed she washed him at all tbh.

A few wet wipes in the van is about all I'd expect.

PyjamaFan · 11/08/2022 18:53

Surely that's not part of her job.

I expect she had other clients to get to so did her best in the limited time she had.

CravenRaven · 11/08/2022 18:53

cont...

But I understand why you are concerned about germs and it might be worth asking her not to wash the dog inside the house in future. Maybe a hose in the garden or the wet wipes, as mentioned.

I hope the home visit goes ok!

Yes I agree but when we first met her she said if / when dogs roll she would wash them which I thought was good - but thinking about it - if you walk more than 1 dog and you have to wash one then it can't be good to leave the others in the car!

Why is she walking in this weather?
All dog walkers are just doing pop ins round our way.

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 11/08/2022 18:57

I'm a dog walker.

It's not always possible to wash dogs properly - especially if I'm doing group walks or have a fully booked day. I try my best not to leave them filthy, but ultimately I just don't have time to wash and dry every single dog.

I think you need to have an agreement with her that says if the dog rolls in something, then he needs to be left in an enclosed area with his stuff left outside until you can get home and wash him properly.

Ideally she should avoid dirty/muddy areas but it's not always possible.

Theluggage15 · 11/08/2022 18:57

My dog walker washes our dog if very muddy or sandy. Just uses the hose outside. Normal for most dog walkers where I live.

She could have started early? I was out walking clients' dogs at 7am to beat the heat.

MumofSpud · 11/08/2022 19:00

Yes she was out v early - which I am grateful for!
I think the enclosed space idea is the constructive way forward!

If the dogs aren't on the lead for the whole walk, he probably made a beeline for the lovely smelly corner himself!

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 11/08/2022 19:00

If you already knew your dog was one for rolling, then you needed to be prepared. Your walker was probably late for the next client and needed to be quick without leaving him in a mess. Make sure she has access to an outside hose, dog towels and shampoo, and that she has clear instructions about what to do. I'm concerned that she would 1. let him off lead, and 2. Walk him in a heatwave, and 3. Leave others in the car during a heatwave. Is she insured?
Hope your dh makes a full recovery.

Crosses with your post about early walk!

What's wrong with letting the dog off the lead?
And how do you know she left other dogs in the car?

AgentProvocateur · 11/08/2022 19:06

🤮🤮 This is why I’d never get a dog 😂

Cockerwalk · 11/08/2022 19:06

@PutinIsAWarCriminal is it unusual for dog walkers to allow dogs off the lead?

2bazookas · 11/08/2022 19:28

You should be grateful she bothered to wash the dog and collar at all.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 11/08/2022 19:31

@sunsetsandsandybeaches op said "if you walk more than 1 dog and you have to wash one then it can't be good to leave the others in the car!"
@Cockerwalk I just think you have to know the dog very, very well to trust that it will come back to you. Near to us a dog walker let 5 off lead and one bolted and got killed on the road just a couple of months ago.

@PutinIsAWarCriminal u normally have to sign a contract which says if you’re happy for your dog to be off lead and that, basically, if something happens, it’s not the dog walkers fault. Which I think is fair enough

PraiseBee · 11/08/2022 19:41

Honestly amazed she washed the dog at all. I think she stepped up.
Sorry you had a horrid need to clear up, round two. Wishing your dh the best

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 11/08/2022 19:45

@Sellie555 sounds reasonable. I'm lucky to be able to take mine to work with me, thank goodness!

PatientlyWaiting21 · 11/08/2022 20:04

My dog Walker would never send mine home in that state.
