An illness ruined an event / holiday / etc

We were supposed to be going glamping today in a cute little pod with my husband, son & 3 dogs and over night last night I started projectile vomiting, which is still going on and now I have the runs too!! (Can't spell the correct word lol)

I'm so upset, I've got so much mum guilt, we've lost the Money, I can't stop crying. Probably because I feel Like absolute dog shite - can't even sip water!

Can't your DH and son go, with the dogs and leave you in peace?

ariesalien · 11/08/2022 15:07

^ also curious about above?

Thesearmsofmine · 11/08/2022 15:14

DH goes with ds and dogs and you have some peace to recover.

PastaCheese · 11/08/2022 15:15

Why can't the rest still go?

FOJN · 11/08/2022 15:17

How long have you booked for? Could you go a couple of days late when you're feeling a bit better?

goldenbag · 11/08/2022 15:18

Yes why don't the rest just go?

Woodsparrow · 11/08/2022 15:19

My family had a D&V bug the week of my wedding. I got it 2 days before the wedding which was so frustrating as there was lots to do, my parents had it the weekend before and my inlaws left the wedding early as FIL had it

We also missed a days holiday once as DH had diarrhoea. It didn't ruin the break but we'd had plans that last day and it was a shame

HerRoyalHappiness · 11/08/2022 15:21

^ what they said.

But if you do want to know...

When we were children my brother and I both did tae kwon do.
He was older than me (I was only 3) and he attended lots of competitions because he was very good. There was a very big awards ceremony one night where my brother was to be presented with student of the year trophy.
Only I wasn't well. My dad insisted I come along as "she's probably doing it for attention" so mum reluctantly takes me. Right as my brother stands up to accept his award, I projectile vomit all over the floor! My dad had to scoop me up and run out with me as I continued to projectile vomit all over him.
Award ceremony well and truly ruined. 😅
My mum stayed with older DB at the ceremony to clean up and then he finally was abke to acceot his award. She came home and was fuming with my dad as she had said she'd stay home with me. It was only his insistence that I go that had ensured the night ended in disaster.

Divide yourselves up whichever way you think will work best, if it's just a few days why don't your DH and DS and dogs go, or if he would struggle with all of them, just DS or just the dogs. If you're going for more than a couple of days, you could meet them later, either drive or if one car/no car at the nearest coach or train station, or however you were originally getting there? DS could have a wonderful bonding experience with Dad, and you could meet them on the last day for some memory making if you're feeling up to it.

& yes unfortunately, in my family every holiday has had some kind of disaster, illness, freak weather, accidents, heat stroke, missed plane or train, especially when we try and go as a big group. I've only been away with friends and that was pretty hiccough free, but if I'd been more than once I doubt it! And even then, my tummy bug hit as we hit the ground at Heathrow 😂

ivfbabymomma1 · 11/08/2022 15:49

It's for 2 nights 2 hours away and sadly DH is recovering from a broken collar bone so he can drive 😭

Thank you for your stories, I've been in and out of sleep all day and I still feel like shit

That's awful :(

Three weeks before we were due to fly I had a perforated intestine. I was very fortunate to survive it. I needed an eight hour op and began my journey back to health (peritonitis, pneumonia, sepsis and an AKI) in an induced coma on life support, in ICU for weeks. Against the loss of a holiday it was so insignificant. It was also insured at the time of booking.

LoveBugBride · 11/08/2022 16:01

I decided to bite the bullet and take my 3 kids abroad on my own as a single parent. They were 7,5 and 2. First night I ate something that didn't agree with me and sat on the loo vomiting into the bathroom bin for hours.

I was so scared that I would need medical attention and I was all alone with the still very young children.

Luckily by morning I was feeling much better and we went out on to have a fantastic holiday and many more after that but for a few hours I was terrified!!

Back in December my husbands cousin contacted us to offer us a free 1 night trip. They had been gifted a non refundable 1 night hotel stay in Chester and tickets to a walk the lights event which included meeting Santa. We jumped at the chance and I packed out bags.
The next day my DH was sick with abdominal pain. We didn't know what was wrong with him but couldn't put him through the car journey, felt bad for him missing out so I contacted his cousin and told her the disappointing news. I contemplated leaving DH and going just me and DS but it wasn't D&V and I was worried about him.
Turned out it was a good thing we didn't go as he had kidney stones for the second time in 4 years and ended up in hospital for a few nights. The Drs thought it was his appendix at first.

You didn’t get travel insurance?

You didn’t get travel insurance?

It was just like glamping in the lakes, I do have travel insurance but surely it won't work for that will it?

Check, it might be covered as it’s a holiday
