I booked a holiday at a "luxury" UK hotel paying £700+ per night for a room. I booked in the spring paying a 50% deposit.
We've arrived at the hotel and it's literally a building site. Massive building works are being completed across the site. The facilities are diminished, it's noisy and dusty and I think dangerous (for example, the pool is open but the filter is broken, the water is green and murky, i suspect building dust).
We were so shocked when we arrived, we were immediately offered a 50% discount (so no more to pay). Other guests are also furious and have been offered similar.
AIBU to still be angry? DH only gets two weeks off per year (he's self-employed) so we tend to invest in a one week luxury break. It's so upsetting as it's been ruined.
The hotel's social media gives the impression there's nothing happening and we were only told the spa works were running slightly over and the spa was closed in advance. We feel very mis-led and a bit conned.
What are our rights under consumer law? Do we have any recourse?
