Children playing football in back alley

I live in a Victorian terrace with a back alley behind our yards which then has the next row of yards and houses behind it.

A group of children have come and started playing football in the alley. They are using bins as goal posts. Lots of shouting and can hear the ball being kicked against people's bins and walls.

Aibu in that this is really pissing me off?

They will be back at school soon. Live and let live.

No you're not, it would drive me bonkers too but it's a lovely day, and it's their holidays, they'll move on soon hopefully

Sunnyqueen · 10/08/2022 14:04

Yes they make a noise but I think it's nice, they're not cooped up at home on a screen or out being antisocial they are just playing out like kids should do. When I was a kid there was always one grumpy old bore on the street moaning, don't be that person.

It's the holidays are instead of being stuck indoors gaming they are actually using neighbourhood space for play.

Fifty years ago before cars filled up residential streets this would have been completely normal. We have forgotten and not noticed the vanishing of children from their own doorsteps.

Doorstep play has many benefits for children families and the wider community. It's more accessible than park play as it means children can play near their own homes when parents don't have time to take them out. It's available to all children even those whose parents can't afford holiday clubs or days out.

If you went and had a look you might warm up about it seeing them enjoy themselves.

It's such a short amount of time each year kids have this chance. Let them enjoy themselves.

Call the fun police on them.

weekendninja · 10/08/2022 14:12

Yes, YABU.

Its summer holidays. There are having fun and they are just wheelie bins.

TokyoSushi · 10/08/2022 14:15

They'll be back at school soon enough. If they're not causing any damage, leave them be.

FlatBottomedGirl · 10/08/2022 14:16

YABU. They have to be able to go somewhere. If they're not causing damage then no harm. Did you never go out and play with your friends?

Justcallmebebes · 10/08/2022 14:17

YABU. I think its great to see and hear kids playing outside. They're playing outside not sitting indoors glued to screens. What's wrong with that?

What is it about the activity is pissing you off ? That kind of thing would have been the norm a few years ago
