Not so EasyJet. Lost luggage

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom or stories with a happy ending on the subject please?

After a perfect flight to Gatwick on Saturday afternoon my case failed to arrive. Dh’s yes, mine no.

obviously it would be too much to hope for any actual assistance in the airport, just a hopeless form to fill in and leave on an unmanned desk. I filled in the online form as soon as I got home.

I received a lovely email by return assuring me of EasyJet’s sorrow and that 90% of bags are returned within 5 days but in the meantime I’d be fully updated by SMS and email. Since then nothing. (4 days).

All my summer clothes, underwear, reading glasses, cosmetics and an absolute ton of other stuff, all gone.

I’ve filled in the form listing some items in case the need to identify them. Do they break the lock of an expensive case?

Please tell me your case turned up, unscathed or tell me how to proceed? Apparently they won’t declare it lost for 45 days and frankly I need my tweezers before then! And do o have receipts for all my belongings? No.

Thanks for any wisdom or just some sympathy. It’s very first world I know.

Easyjet lost my luggage in 2020. It did arrive after 5 days. They lost it on the way out to holiday so I had no summer clothes at all for me or my children and had to buy really random things to wear, plus contact lenses, toiletries etc..

The suitcases did arrive relatively unscathed - one had lost wheels, one was quite bashed. They all stayed locked and they all had everything in them. I don't remember there being any communication from them, by text or otherwise .

I was able to buy clothes, toiletries etc to live on (they have a measly allowance) and claim back the money when I got back. I don't think their compensation scheme would cover the full value of everything, but I'm not sure. Check your holiday insurance too and notify them as mine did cover it.

@HelenHywater thanks for your reply. I’m very glad it didn’t happen on the way there. Nightmare.

I won’t give up hope yet. The silence is unnerving.

I hope you get your luggage back soon op.

I was worried when we had to put our own tags on the suitcase at self check out going out at Gatwick and I I wondered what would happen if people didn't stick them on properly ? They must fall off sometimes.
I've been lucky that I've never lost a case , but I can imagine it's a pain and the lack of communication from them is bad
I remember once being given a piece of paper with a barcode on for the luggage when someone checked it in, but this was many many years ago now and not something they do now?
Really we should be given something to prove it went off to the luggage bays ?

My suggestion would be to tweet them a lot and and also email one of the bosses [email protected] head of customer service
i did that for another matter. It helped a bit. Also threaten to complain to guardian consumer affairs, bbc consumer affairs program etc.
worth a try

That is why I always split everyone's clothes across all the suitcases. If one goes missing then at least we've all got something wear.

Just wondering if OP ever received her lost luggage? I am in same boat now and getting silent treatment from EasyJet not very encouraging…

Feedthebirds · 18/08/2022 14:10

My luggage has turned up by courier 2 days later. Good luck to anyone else in similar situation.

Veering slightly off the point of the thread but whenever I've used easyJet self-check in it's printed a baggage receipt for me? They still issue them at a normal check-in desk too, I've too loads of them stuck to the back of my passport cover.

To answer an question of the OP's, if it's expensive luggage with built in locks they have means of opening it without damage. If you've put your own lock on it then yes they can/could smash it off.
