Pease Pudding - yes or no?

Went to a lovely little cafe in our village today, I had a pease pudding and ham sandwich. Delicious. I do love a good pease pudding. My children all think I’m weird and are convinced I’m the only person in the world that likes such a thing!

AIBU or is pease pudding a delicious and enjoyable food stuff?

Yumyumyum - proper ham and please pudding stottie.

storminabuttercup · 09/08/2022 19:33

Ham and pease pudding stotties. Yum.

FabFitFifties · 09/08/2022 19:34

Love it hot, so the butter melts on the bun/stottie, and topped with brown sauce. Yum. I don't like ham. Yes I'm from NE.

luxxlisbon · 09/08/2022 19:35

Literally never heard of it.

Londoner here and I love it. Pease pudding and saveloy. Mmmmmmmmm.

With stuffing as well

LaQuern · 09/08/2022 19:37

The finest of all the sandwich fillings. Especially with tinned ham

TomAllenWife · 09/08/2022 19:38

Hot pease pudding is not a thing up north

Surely that's just mushy peas??? Like from the chippy with saveloy?

Pease pudding is a cold thick spread to go in a sandwich/stottie

AdaColeman · 09/08/2022 19:38

Delicious with sausages or pork chops.
It's dhal for those not keen on spices, it's economical too.

SavingsThreads · 09/08/2022 19:39

No idea what it is! Off to Google...

EsmeGythaMagrat · 09/08/2022 19:40

Northerner here! Delicious in a saveloy dip and in a stottie with ham; especially when the ham has been roasted and still warm from the oven.

SavingsThreads · 09/08/2022 19:40

Oh yum. Is it a generational/decade thing?

msbevvy · 09/08/2022 19:40

When I had some the other day I noticed the serving suggestions photos on the tin. One was to serve it on crackers as canapés

WhoWants2Know · 09/08/2022 19:41

Now that I've googled it, I think it sounds nice.

Gatekeeper · 09/08/2022 19:42

it is delicious...brought up on the stuff as a Northerner. Home boiled ham in a stottie, Lurpak and a good wodge of pease pudden- all washed down with a big mug of Rington's tea

Food of the gods

worriedniece · 09/08/2022 19:43

Hello- you appeared to have transported into a nursery rhyme. What even is pease pudding?!

ShitPuffin · 09/08/2022 19:44

Oh yes - it is as EXCELLENT in a saveloy dip as it is in a ham sandwich. I also ate it in sandwiches alone throughout my childhood (chosen not forced 😂).

God, everyone mentioning stottie as well…I’m getting homesick. Has to be from Greggs though.

AlviarinAesSedai · 09/08/2022 19:46

I don’t like pease pudding but really it’s just a bean purée. I use it instead of butter for family.
But I am from north east so should love it but don’t.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 09/08/2022 19:47

Its a real thing? Thought it was some random song for small children!

Tenpintonpin · 09/08/2022 19:47

Hard yes to the geordie hummus.

MsSquiz · 09/08/2022 19:48

North Eastern working class girl here!
My dm used to make her peas pudding from the peas cooked while boiling a ham joint. So she would have hot ham and fresh peas pudding stotties.

I, however, cannot stand the stuff - smell or taste. So I would just have the hot ham stottie 🤤

GreyllGin · 09/08/2022 19:49

Pease Pudding and Savaloy is a line in Food, Glorious Food the song they sing at the start of Oliver! So I’ve always assumed it was popular in the south too.

tinkertailor2 · 09/08/2022 19:50

Yes from me! It's basically an English hummus (sort of...)

Spanielsarepainless · 09/08/2022 19:53

It's disgusting.

mistermagpie · 09/08/2022 19:53

Oh it's lovely!! I was born in the north east and my grandad made the best pease pudding! Has anyone got a recipe, because I haven't had it for years, I now live in Scotland and it's all haggis and tunnocks teacakes round here...

gaggiagirl · 09/08/2022 19:55

I have never been to a wake in Northumberland that did not serve excellent ham and pease pudding stottie sandwiches.
There's always talk of who will bring the ham and pease pudding sandwiches in my family and it's like an honour to be the sandwich maker and have everyone compliment your pease pudding skills!
