To interpret what my dad says as comments on my weight?

To keep it brief, I had a baby 7 months ago. The baby weight is taking a little time to lose. My dad keeps making these comments that I interpret as comments on my weight but my husband says I'm being overly sensitive and to just forget it, it's not what I think it is.

The comments in the last month have been "this pizza and leggings lifestyle doesn't suit you" and "you're not eating again?!" (While having a snack, breast feeding makes me hungry). Some others commenting on what a big appetite I have.

I was under weight before the baby and now am at the top end of the healthy BMI range.

Am I just projecting because I'm self conscious or are these d*ckish things to say?

Unfortunately you Dad sounds like a dick. Breastfeeding is well known to burn so many calories and you need the food intake to breastfeed.

Dickish things to say - you've just had a baby and you are feeding that baby. Congratulations, you are doing well.

My dad, who I love dearly, went through a bit of a phase of commenting on my weight.

One day I just replied It's really very rude to comment on somebody else's weight, unasked. I don't do it to you, so I would like you to stop doing it to me.'

I am even fatter now, but he's never commented again.

@DoraDont sorry to hear that, why are they like this???

Thanks, everyone, I feel a little less overly-sensitive.

Mine said yesterday "what size do you wear, about a 26?"
I'm a 16-18 Angry

I bet he is overweight himself, am I right?

babyrocket · 09/08/2022 13:47

@TempName01 he used to be really fit (we have always been a very sporty family) but in his old age he's kind of gotten a bit flabby. You can see he used to be fit but he's much squishier than he used to be... sounds a lot like me 🙈

Your dad is being a complete twat. It's rude of him to comment and also, you're a grown woman and your weight is none of his business. You've had a baby ffs! Seven months is really not that long a time. Your hormones are all over the place and your life's been turned upside down. You're not being over-sensitive.

Well next time say ‘I’ve had a baby, what’s your excuse?!’
