To think nursery consumables charge is too high

Our nursery are introducing a consumables charge for those children receiving funded hours. It works out at £12 per day, they say to cover sun cream, drinks, snacks and other consumables.
I can send in my own sun cream at a much lower cost, they only provide tap water, a snack is just fruit or breadsticks again I can get for under £1 a day, he’s not in nappies. We also already pay £5 per day for lunch and dinner.
I’m not against them charging something but I think £12 seems excessive, AIBU?

Ours always had a consumable fee. Its 10.50 and they say its for days out, ice cream, sun-cream (No food, snacks, nappies, wipes included).
It is quite high come to think of it.

YANBU but the problem is the shitty funding system, not the nursery.

Do they get taken on days out? Ours never have apart from the duck pond or park around the corner. They had some 10p ice pops in the heat wave, again I’d rather just buy them myself!

They’re charging a “top up” fee by the back door - nothing to do with the price of snacks, much more to do with cost of staff versus pitiful funding rates. They have to make money somewhere.

12 quid they are having a laugh. I'd ask for an accounting of that.

Around Christmas time they got taken to Fenwick to see Santa. Other than that; you're right, its always the park around the corner 😂

I'd just say no, bring in sun cream and a snack. They can charge for 'consumables' but legally you can bring your own in instead.
