Anyone with legal knowledge?

Hi, does anyone know if a (very high value, could be relevant) car that doesn’t match it’s description on the DVLA website is legal? For example, if it says the correct make but has it listed as eg blue and the actual car is red. Sorry for using AIBU but need a quick answer.

Depends what you mean by legal. Colour changes should be reported to the DVLA, and there is an up to £1000 fine if not. But the car isn't 'illegal' because of that.

Thanks. I’m actually concerned because it’s parked in a neighbours driveway whilst they’re away. It’s a rolls Royce, quite new, and certainly not theirs.

Do you live in a city with poor parking? Or near a train station? Some people rent out their empty drives. What are you concerned about?

That’s enough curtain twitching for today @Yesthatismychildsigh

unless you have a previous issue with these neighbours which you haven’t explained yet on this post, then.. why do you care?

honestly though why?

SavoirFlair · 08/08/2022 14:33

As in, if it was my neighbour, I have her details and I’d be able to confirm pretty quickly if she was leasing out her drive on an app

If I didn’t have her details though and wasn’t friendly with her.. then I’m not sure I’d go to the trouble of trying to find a criminal infraction on colour changes or whatever in order to snare someone

HappyHamsters · 08/08/2022 14:33

Could you contact your ndn to ket them know

Yesthatismychildsigh · 08/08/2022 14:37

I do get on with them, I’m boarding their hamsters. I’ve sent a message on Facebook, but no reply yet. Nowhere near a train station and on a bog standard estate with large is here houses and lots of big driveways. Guess I’m just concerned it’s been stolen and parked up there.

I’m guessing the OP is concerned it’s been stolen and parked there rather than the neighbours are up to something. Do you have their details to message them OP?

Plumtreebob · 08/08/2022 14:39

Oh sorry X-post

Is the difference in colour that much different, for we have had cars on our forecourt where the log book says red for example and its brown in my eyes, manufacturers have a whole world of unsual colours to describe cars, that it some cases makes me think the person running that department must be colour blind, and to be fair, a relatively new rolls royce would have a tracker, thieves sometimes disable them and to make sure they have actually managed it dump them somewhere to see if anyone turns up.

I rang 101 the other month as one had been parked weirdly down our lane, and the call answerer informed me there was nothing flagged on their records but thanked me for calling, so you could always do that.

araiwa · 08/08/2022 15:06

I got pulled over by the police as their system said my car was a Vectra when it was an Astra. Mistakes are made

Completely different colour. And yes, that was done to a car my sister had stolen, which has made me wonder about this.

They are, but if I was paying a whopping load of money for such a (tacky) prestige car then I’d be checking everything.

I’d wait until I hear back from your friend and if she doesn’t know who it is ring the non emergency police number as theyll
be able to check it out.

It’s probably one of the neighbours just using their driveway.

None of the neighbours here own that type of car. Whilst it’s a fairly nice area, the car sticks out like a sore thumb. And there’s no shortage of parking here.

I wonder if any of you neighbours have visitors and have been told to park the car there so it will not get damaged/scraped.

Could have, but don’t really see any of the neighbours doing that, tbh.
