To ask for help finding the hardest, firmest (cheapish) mattress?

I'm lying in bed on a 3 year old £600 mattress and I just want to sleep on the floor, it's absolutely awful (I think it's an Emma or Simba) I've had back pain for a while and I'm positive it's due to this bloody mattress. As soon as I'm in bed I sink down and roll into my partner, boiling hot all night. I need a hard mattress but can't find one online.....

Yes!! IKEA, not sure on the name of it but think it cost less than £250. It came rolled, so fit in the car, and it's ace!! No more sagging at the hips and a good night's sleep!! (I am awake now, for other reasons)

Apparently 1 in 10 Europeans are conceived on an IKEA mattress OP. You may be able to get it in the back of your car but you have been warned.

I think it is easier to sleep separately than with a partner who weighs more. The mattress dips then which won't help matters.

I bought a cheap mattress from Ebay a few years ago but the bedbase was broken and owing to ongoing poverty I could not replace the bed until very recently. So what I used to do was use a topper and change it every 2 years.

I had an expensive simba mattress on an expensive sprung bed base. Hated it. Sold it all off and bought a medium firm IKEA mattress and a metal frame slatted bed frame (also IKEA - about 40 quid second hand!). Happy as Larry. No squeaks and no sore back. The curved slats make a huge difference IMO. The mattress trade is a bit of a con.

A firm mattress is amazing OP - agree with you.

We spent a lot of money on our bed cos my DH had back problems but I reckon IKEA would sort you out with any luck.

We bought the firmest mattress in the shop, the salesman was a bit doubtful but we were insistent.

He weighs about twice what I do and I barely feel him moving in bed now, and we never end up stuck together in the middle any more.

It’s the naff memory foam causing all the problems !!! And it’s overpriced!!Go back to pocket sprung

We have an Emma Matress bout £450 it's fab

We both have the IKEA hafslo in firm. It's not coming up on the UK site now, but I think it was their cheapest sprung mattress, less than £100, and still fine 5 years later. I struggle to sleep on softer mattresses (that likely cost much more than mine).

apintortwo · 08/08/2022 07:47

I got mine from Dunelm.

1000 pocket sprung medium firm for around £200.

SavingsThreads · 08/08/2022 07:48

IKEA halstad in firm. Love it.

Vampirethriller · 08/08/2022 07:49

I've just got one from IKEA, less than £150 and so good. It's got springs and I put a foam topper on and it's made so much difference to my back pain and sleep.

AnnieJ1985 · 08/08/2022 07:59

The Ikea Morgedal in firm, it is solid! DH and I have it for 2 years, and we both sleep really well on it. It comes rolled up

We also have the IKEA Vatnestrom on spare bed, which is a lovely mattress too, but a big brute to move. It is extra deep and weighs a tonne and definitely does not come rolled up.

I may have accidentally ordered it, thinking it was the rolled up one. DH was an absolute gentleman for having a go at me when it landed. We just got it up the stairs. Thankfully spare bed is a double as we definitely wouldn't have got a king size up the stairs.

The reviews for those Emma and Simba ones are just awful, I'm surprised people buy it. Two friends I know had them and returned them. Same issue of sinking after a while and also gets very hot.

Another recommendation for IKEA. Also yes to a spring mattress.
