Kids driving cars?

ShittyCar · 07/08/2022 21:39

Dh has just got our 12 year old to drive the car backwards and forwards in the driveway.
He is under the influence if alcohol.

Is this ok or is it a shit idea?

I said dc could accidentally floor it and knock the car into the house, our other car, forward into the neighbours house or car. He said he had control of the handbrake so it was ok.

Fucking stupid

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/08/2022 21:42

He is a twat

WatermelonSugarSigh · 07/08/2022 21:43

You really need to ask if this is ok? For a 12 year old to drive the car in the driveway?

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 07/08/2022 21:43

You don't know if it's ok for your child to drive a car with a drunk man?

ShittyCar · 07/08/2022 21:45

Well no, obviously I am ot ok with it

He tells me that I am stopping the kids having experiences and need to take a hard look at myself.
So i was just checking I wasnt over reacting, based on prior events that may cloud my judgement of tonight's particular situation.

Imagine if you were explaining it to a police officer that should help you to decide if it's a good idea.

Hello officer, yes my drunk husband just let my 12 year old drive the car and it went into the wall. That's ok isn't it?

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/08/2022 21:45

Hmm is your soon to be ex drunk????

Totally this, it’s baffling that you feel the need to ask!

Regularsizedrudy · 07/08/2022 21:50

Your Dh is a fucking moron and a dangerous one

OP you know it's not okay. It would never be considered okay. Your partner is just an absolute twat.

Dobbysgotthesocks · 07/08/2022 21:57

Absolutely not ok whilst your DH is under the influence of alcohol.
That said I learnt to drive driving up and down a family members long driveway aged 13. But under strict supervision of a competent adult.

Augend23 · 07/08/2022 21:59

I first took a car out when I was 14. My father was absolutely not drunk and we took it out on an old airfield - private land and nothing to crash into. Did that once every few months til I was 17, so when I got my licence I was in a fit state to be let loose on the roads.

I thought you were going to say something like the above. That might be okay even at 12. But not with an adult under the influence!!

SarahSissions · 07/08/2022 22:01

The alcohol is the main problem for me here. A driveway is probably too small as well, he’s a twat.

BotterMon · 07/08/2022 22:02

And when your child crashes the car into the house, is your DP/DH going to say he was driving. So a DUI and no insurance to boot?

what planet are you on?

Inklingpot · 07/08/2022 22:03

did ye aye

WhiskersPete · 07/08/2022 22:03

Haha this can't be serious!

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 07/08/2022 22:03

What a crock of 💩

londongirl12 · 07/08/2022 22:07

Is your husband a d**k when he's sober also??

ShittyCar · 07/08/2022 22:15

This is not a troll thread, or made up. Happy for mnhq to check. I have posted previous about my dh under a different username and I didnt want an AS to influence peoples thoughts about my dh.
I KNOW it's wrong. I just needed a sense check as he makes me doubt myself.

I was taught to drive at 11, and drove around our farm every day in various vehicles and machinery, alone most of the time, but even I think your husband has been entirely unreasonable here. He’s drunk and you’re in a built up, urban area. Fucking idiot.

Hollyhead · 07/08/2022 22:28

The actual teaching to drive on a private drive is fine in my opinion. Absolutely not when drunk though, what a terrible example.

Pixiedust1234 · 07/08/2022 22:29

Isnt it a crime for the adult to be under the influence of alcohol whilst being in charge of a car? Remember you can't sleep off a boozy night in your car, (with ignition on for heating), even if the engine is off. You have a serious dh problem.

NumberTheory · 07/08/2022 22:37

I wouldn’t have a problem with this if he was sober. It’s not a bad idea to get kids used to cars when they’re younger and it’s easy enough to pull the handbrake on if the kid did overshoot. But you need to be on the ball when you’re doing it, not half cut.

Only illegal in a place the general public have access to (so roads, car parks etc.). Private driveway would not normally count.

GrazingSheep · 07/08/2022 22:47

Did the child know that their father was drunk ?
Not that it matters - what are you going to do?
