To ask: Why did I buy rubbing alcohol?

It's been bugging me all week.

I definitely bought it, I dimly remember ordering it.

Now it's here, though, I can't for the life of me remember why!

Any thoughts?

Hand sanitiser?

VandyCan · 07/08/2022 12:39

Have you purchased anything from homesense or TK Maxx?

Their stickers on furniture are the absolute worst to get off with anything other than rubbing alcohol

Leafy3 · 07/08/2022 12:42

I didnt know it was good for removing stickers, that's helpful!

Hand sanitiser feels closest. Can you use it for bathroom cleaning? I think I might have been looking up eco cleaning stuff at the time...

There were lots of home made hand sanitiser recipes going around at the beginning of the pandemic, when hand gel was in short supply, that involved surgical spirit or rubbing alcohol.

MarsupiIami · 07/08/2022 12:50

First aid, cleaning, removing stickers etc.

You can use it for shower spray.

I love rubbing alcohol it's very handy.

Allywill · 07/08/2022 13:03

Did you superglue yourself to something?

maras2 · 07/08/2022 13:07

Cheaper than gin. Smile

happystory · 07/08/2022 13:10

Can't you use it for blisters or something .....?

Sahara123 · 07/08/2022 13:11

Apparently you can use it on shoes that are a bit tight but I never got round to ordering any and now my shoes have stretched naturally 🤷‍♀️

In the early days of covid everyone was trying to get rubbing alcoho t make their own hand sanitser

I didnt know what it was then and I still don't know but it was discussed everywhere at that time

Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 · 07/08/2022 13:13

Have you an ink stain on something and were going to try surgical spirit to remove it ?
I only discovered yesterday at the chemist that surgical spirit and rubbing alcohol are the same thing

Pen mark on a leather handbag? Make sure you reseal the leather after with dubbin or something like.

Chewing gum on your jeans?

Crumpleton · 07/08/2022 13:18

Have you been looking at Instagram?
Lots of uses on there for using rubbing alcohol.

goldfinchonthelawn · 07/08/2022 13:19

Are you learning the guitar? You can put it on the pads of your fingers to toughen the skin so it doesn't hurt so much.

Thank you. I had no idea this could work. I have a lovely bag I never use because of pen marks. Going to try it.

Some other cleaning uses:

Cleaning glasses (spectacles)/glass eg mirrors or stainless steel
Cleaning white boards or ink stains
Deodorising or stretching shoes
Cleaning blinds
Sterilising gardening tools eg secateurs to prevent cross infection
Cleaning your mouse/keyboard
Killing fruit flies
Sterilising make up brushes

Some healthcare uses:

Hardening skin eg to stop blisters. String/guitar players sometimes use it to toughen up the skin
Liniment to ease muscle aches
Antiseptic/disinfectant
To make shapeable ice packs

DatingIsDifficult · 07/08/2022 13:31

I bought some to clean a surface before sticking command hooks there, it was recommended to in the instructions.

chesirecat99 · 07/08/2022 13:32

Bathroom cleaning? Maybe you wanted to use it to clean taps or glass (mirrors/shower doors).

hedgehoglurker · 07/08/2022 13:32

I bought some to clean hair straighteners. I've embraced the natural curl now though, so the alcohol sits in my bathroom waiting for another mission. I've used vodka for ink stains, which works well too.
