I was at the hairdressers yesterday and one of the women is on maternity leave after giving birth a fortnight ago.

I asked "How's Margaret doing? All good with her and her Daughter?"

My stylist replied" Yes, she's back to her pre-pregnancy weight so that's all good."

And that was it.

Nothing about the child. Nothing about wellness, just weight. Confused

The baby's sex and name was announced months ago, granted, so that removed a lot of the normal chatter surrounding a new baby.

AIBU to be saddened that the overriding information to pass on after a birth is regarding weight?

I'd say YABU. You don't know the ins and outs. There could be something wrong with the baby that she doesn't want people to know and your stylist telling you would have been gossip, so she just stuck to a neutral topic.

I went up to a woman who was new to a new parents support group I was in, I knew how daunting and lonely it could be so wanted to introduce myself. I asked how she was doing/how everything was going and she replied 'yes good, I'm back to my pre pregnancy weight already.'

I didn't reply that technically so was I, I was just this fat before getting pregnant, but I did find it a bit sad that that's what she first talked about.
