It's a dragonfly, they can be quite big. Maybe what you thought were dragonflies were actually damselflies (smaller)

Looking at the size of the stitches on the fabric there, this isn’t a very big dragonfly. Some people call craneflies (daddy long legs) dragonflies, is that what you were thinking of?

I can't see the head properly. I think from that angle it looks like a cranefly.

Is the barbed tail actually the ovipositor? I think you have a girl dragonfly alien monster.
