Swimming costumes at the Commonwealth games

Just watching a bit of synchro diving. Why oh why is it needed for their costumes to be so very high cut. With the moves they make there is real danger of giving the crowd a view of more than bargained for!! I mean surely it doesn’t make them dive any better and the men wear regular cut trunks so what is the point??

I dont think you can call the mens "normal" trunks they are teeny tiny!

DamnAKarmaDingDong · 06/08/2022 21:13

I'm always too distracted by Leon Taylor's relentlessly savage commentary to even notice the costumes.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 06/08/2022 21:13

I was just thinking the same thing!! Canada had much better costumes. The english team have there whole arse out!! Although the mens shorts are too small as well! Less bum cheeks from all competitiors I say!

I agree, they looked like they barely covered everything.

Oh my god, my daughter and I have been saying this! He’s so funny.

I think they all look really smart and amazing - men and women divers.

What do you expect, Barbara and Malcolm in an M&S floral tankini and baggy board shorts doing a belly flop from the steps?

PlanetNormal · 06/08/2022 21:17

If I had worked that hard to build a body like that, I would want to show off as much of it as possible, too.

Throwawaytoday · 06/08/2022 21:18

I saw actual butt crack during the men's 3m diving earlier.

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2022 21:18

We are also talking about them they are so high 😳

countvoncount · 06/08/2022 21:19

I thought the same watching the diving, very arse cheek heavy
Look bloody uncomfortable to me!

Popsicle33 · 06/08/2022 21:21

The judges need to see their leg positions etc

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2022 21:22

Yes it's the diving we were watching and then they did slomo so much arse cheek !

VirginiaQ · 06/08/2022 21:25

I was thinking the same about some of the women's 'shorts' in the athletics. There was one event and I actually though some of them were wearing thongs from the back. Lots of buttocks on show and the gusset right up the crack at the back. Looked really uncomfortable.

Of course that is what the OP is asking for.

I do take the point about running though. Lots of women athletes wear fitted shorts now which are great. As are skorts for other sports - absolutely brilliant. I've never understood atthetics "pants" and how you are supposed to run in them, particularly when I had to wear them at school. It felt like at 12 years old and going through puberty I was suddenly required to do PE in my vest and pants again, after wearing shorts and t-shirt at primary school.

edwinbear · 06/08/2022 21:51

I’ve been Googling to see if there is an actual reason for them competing in thongs. I mean if that’s what they feel comfortable in, good for them, wear what you like. But gosh, no way would I want my bottom on full display to the world - and they don’t look at all comfortable to my middle aged, fuddy duddy mind.

I think they are small so as to be aerodynamic, and to hold their junk firmly in place.

I noticed Dina Asher-smith had to "de-wedgie" her leotard/athletics suit either before or after a race at the world championships recently

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2022 22:12

You can have tight and bum coverage and the women were really high and they don't have junk !

wonderstuff · 06/08/2022 22:12

I thought the same, they would look better if they weren’t so high cut, no need for them to be right up to the hip surely?

PinkPlantCase · 06/08/2022 22:13

I thought the same!!

Personally I think if a costume/athletics kit doesn’t cover where pubic hair naturally grows then it’s too short. I don’t like the pressure it puts on young girls in the sport.

Omg. I soooo glad someone started a thread on this because I so nearly did!

The Australians had lovely swimsuits so I'm guessing it's not a necessary style for diving.

They all looked like they'd been made too short for their bodies!

itsgettingweird · 06/08/2022 22:16

The mens certainly weren't "normal" either.

Most of them were tucking themselves in in the platform before diving 🫣

DamnAKarmaDingDong · 06/08/2022 22:18

in a similar vein, some of the gymnasts were competing in 7/8 length black leggings, rather than spangly high-cut leotards, and I thought they looked really elegant.
