To take these shoes back to the shop and complain

About a month ago I bought some sandals from a shoe shop, I'm on a tight budget unfortunately so couldn't afford to splash out on anything extravagant but they cost me £20

That being said I don't expect the strap to snap off during the third time wearing them.

WIBU to go back to the shop with the sandals and complain - ask for another pair? I no longer have the receipt which probably doesn't set me in good standing but I'm really annoyed as I now have no summer shoes.

Of course you're not unreasonable to ask. Did you pay by card? You might be able to use your bank statement as proof of purchase.

You don’t need a receipt if an item is unfit for
purpose!

Jellywobblescobbles · 06/08/2022 21:14

Absolutely take them back. They should refund or exchange as they were unfit for purpose.

AspireMe · 06/08/2022 21:23

Without a receipt I don't think you'll get very far as its a requirement for most stores, but no harm in chancing.

I brought a pair from sainsburys over the jubilee weekend and the sole came completely unstuck on one of the end of July. I took them back with no receipt and they let me swap them. Even fashion sandals should last a season! Most places will let you swap if they are clearly faulty. They were still selling that style so could see they were a recent purchase.

They will recognise their own brand of sandals. Just be assertive, but friendly. You will get it sorted.

Thank you, I was on the fence as to how it would be received. I didn't want to embarrass myself if there was no chance of them doing anything about it. I'll pop there tomorrow. I can show the transaction on my banking app if they're in any doubt.

often if it’s a manufacturer if fault you do better by emailing head office with a picture and description of what’s happened

Whattodoaboutworknow · 06/08/2022 22:59

They should look almost brand new if it’s only your third time wearing them so it will
be clear they are faulty. Point that out when you return them.
