Did Border Control check if you had minimum £85 (or is it euro) spends?

I'm going in September and there's no way I will need over £700 for just me. In fact, I'd be surprised if I spent more than £250.

In Spain right now. No, one checked.

Whoops1 · 06/08/2022 17:19

No no one checked

DoDisDenDoDat · 06/08/2022 17:19

Here right now - no checks other than for COVID vac certificate

StStephensTower · 06/08/2022 17:20

First I have heard of this and we just came back. No one asked

Bellezza · 06/08/2022 17:20

No checks.

IDontDrinkTea · 06/08/2022 17:20

No one checked, but they did want covid vaccination proof

whateveryousay · 06/08/2022 17:21

Same as others. In Spain now, no checks.

Kangaruby · 06/08/2022 17:21

No checks, didn't even check covid vaccine status

FeelMyBicep · 06/08/2022 17:23

No checks for the £85, but make sure your covid vaccinations are up to date (haven't expired) and you have record of them either on the NHS app or the stamped card - they were stopping all arrivals at Palma

Topseyt123 · 06/08/2022 17:23

We returned from Spain in early July. Nobody checked anything at all. Didn't even check our Covid vaccination certificates either.

abovedecknotbelow · 06/08/2022 17:24

No checks. There was someone asking for proof of covid status but couldn't get a signal so got waved through along with everyone else who also couldn't access theirs.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 06/08/2022 17:28

No. Not asked. We were asked to get covid status stuff ready for checks, but then waved through anyway and didn't see them stopping anyone (Lanzarote).

QueSyrahSyrah · 06/08/2022 17:29

They don't check. Like any other EU country they could ask for proof but likely only would if they had some other reason to suspect someone was trying to enter the country for nefarious reasons.

That's not dramatic enough tabloid fodder though so here we are with the stories.

AreWeNearlyThereYet84 · 06/08/2022 18:16

Thank you all for your reassuring replies!

There was a long thread on this yesterday. The Spanish haven't got the resources to faff and the media have sucked everyone in.

This. It's the most ridiculous non-story for 99% of UK travellers to Spain. I don't know who's more stupid, the editors of the papers that print such crap or the people who believe it's going to be an issue for the average person going on holiday to Spain, or any other EU country.

Unless you're going there on a one way ticket with a vague plan to stay with a friend or relative and look for work, then you've nothing to worry about.

Polimolly · 06/08/2022 18:35

I'm here now. They asked for the covid pass but that's it

BarbaraofSeville · 06/08/2022 18:35

If only we could go back in time and rip up the referendum vote of anyone unable to explain what a third country is then we wouldn't have to keep seeing this nonsense.

AreWeNearlyThereYet84 · 07/08/2022 15:45

Thank you all so much for your replies.

No checks. Do make sure you have your covid passport though as this was checked.
