Trying to be as objective as possible so will just give the facts.

  1. He threw up and had diarrhoea this morning after our youngest DC was sick the day previously. He's never sick, so pretty good guess he's caught a bug from her. He went to work regardless when I said I really don't think you should.
  1. He is due to be having his 2 kids stay over with us from tomorrow evening until Monday. I advised him to maybe delay it by a day and have them come Sunday at the earliest so it's 48 hrs clear, to avoid infecting them too. He plans to drive a significant distance with them on Sunday for a day out, so didn't want him to have to deal with vomiting kids in the car if he infects them. He replied "I haven't decided yet, I might still get them tomorrow if I'm not sick again".

Is it just me, or is he being irresponsible on both counts here?

Up to him what he does with his own kids, but he is an absolute prick to go to work and be around colleagues if he's got a bug.

3sacharm · 05/08/2022 13:09

"Going to work" can mean lots of different things - not necessarily in an office with loads of people. He could work on his own in an isolated area unlikely to infect anyone else so up to him if he wants to go to work or not

Same with his kids - assuming he's not sick again it's nearly 48 hours until the kids come so infection risk will be low

Incredibly selfish to go to work and spread it around. He should at least warn his older kids before giving it to them too and let them/their mum decide.

D&V bugs spread very quickly and are bloody horrible. He’s being an idiot.

He works in a public sector job and he is definitely NOT in an isolated area away from others. This morning he was in a hospital for example.

@AnneLovesGilbert

Yeah it wasn't even "I'll ask the kids and see if they want to risk it" (they are teens so able to make their own decisions to an extent I suppose?), but his response was "I haven't decided yet". So he's going to make the choice for them, without informing them 🙄

He went into a hospital with d&v?! That is divorcable stupidity and selfishness. I don’t even know what to say to that.

stress22 · 05/08/2022 13:25

Yep, he did. It's because he's refusing to believe it's a bug. He keeps saying it must be from a dodgy pizza I ate last night (I ate the same and I'm fine 🤷‍♀️). The fact our DC was sick with exactly the same symptoms 24 hrs ago and he dealt with the clean up operation, to me strongly
Implies it's a bug and not the pizza?? Also I'd be sick too from the pizza surely?

Glad it's not just me who thinks this was a ridiculous decision!

Get him tested for COVID that was the start of it for me and your kids op

wendyjoy · 20/07/2023 12:01

He needs to be isolated for at least 48 hours.. it's highly contagious.
